Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Construction Project Manager (Mechanical) to lead the planning, execution, and successful delivery of complex institutional construction projects. The ideal candidate will have a Mechanical Engineering background with extensive experience managing the mechanical scope of Long-Term Care (LTC) facilities, hospitals, schools, community centres, and other institutional buildings.
This role requires a proven leader who can oversee projects from pre-construction through commissioning while ensuring they are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract specifications and quality standards. The successful candidate will work closely with owners, consultants, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and project teams to deliver high-quality mechanical systems for critical public infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all phases of mechanical construction projects from pre-construction planning through project closeout.
- Manage institutional construction projects including Long-Term Care facilities, hospitals, schools, community centres, government buildings, and similar public-sector projects.
- Coordinate with architects, mechanical and electrical consultants, structural engineers, owners, and subcontractors throughout the project lifecycle.
- Review mechanical drawings, specifications, blueprints, and technical schematics to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, procurement plans, and resource allocations.
- Prepare, review, and manage construction estimates, project budgets, change orders, and cost controls.
- Oversee procurement of mechanical equipment and materials, evaluate subcontractor quotations, and negotiate contracts.
- Conduct regular site meetings and inspections to monitor construction progress, quality, safety, and compliance with applicable building codes and standards.
- Identify project risks and implement proactive solutions to minimise delays and cost overruns.
- Ensure all mechanical installations meet design specifications, commissioning requirements, and owner expectations.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, including RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, progress reports, meeting minutes, schedules, and closeout documentation.
- Foster strong working relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal project teams.
- Promote a culture of safety, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation is considered a strong asset.
- Minimum 4–5 years of construction project management experience, with significant experience managing mechanical scopes on institutional projects.
- Demonstrated experience delivering Long-Term Care facilities, hospitals, schools, community centres, healthcare facilities, or other institutional buildings.
- Thorough understanding of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, hydronic systems, medical gas systems, and building automation systems.
- Strong knowledge of construction contracts, project scheduling, budgeting, procurement, and cost management.
- Excellent understanding of Ontario Building Code, CSA standards, healthcare construction requirements, and applicable regulations.
- Experience with construction management software such as Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, Bluebeam, or similar platforms.
- Strong blueprint reading and technical drawing interpretation skills.
- Experience preparing and reviewing construction estimates and managing project financial performance.
- Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and client satisfaction.
