The Head Cook is responsible for and oversees all aspects of kitchen management, food preparation, food ordering, and menu planning at a summer camp located on Mabel Lake, BC, by the Shuswap River. This includes developing a nutritious, well-balanced menu, making efficient use of resources, staying within the allocated budget, and providing excellent service to all campers, staff, volunteers and visitors at camp. The Head Cook’s duties include daily communication and feedback with the Camp Director and as needed with the Camp Board Liaison to ensure the kitchen’s smooth integration into the overall camp program.
June 15-August 21- Summer Camp Program: nine overnight camps for approx. 35 campers (aged 7-17) and 12 staff and volunteers (aged 18-40). Time is a standard 40-hour week. See https://mackenziecamp.ca/summer-camps/ for details.
Qualifications:
- current Food Safe Certification.
- experience cooking for 50 - 80 people.
- experience providing diets for children with food allergies and special diets.
- Secondary School or Community / Vocational College.
- Level 1 First Aid an asset.
- ability to plan a 2-week menu with input from the board and develop a grocery order.
- Comfortable working in a semi-remote location for the duration of the contract.
- must consent to a Criminal Record Check
