About the Client:
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for an active 85-year-old woman living independently in Perth, Ontario at Lanark Lifestyles. She maintains a vibrant social life including golf (Tuesday and Thursday mornings), bridge, and regular activities with friends. While she's still driving locally and managing many aspects of daily life, her family has noticed some memory changes—occasional difficulty recalling names of friends and navigating technology. She has Type 2 diabetes (well-managed) and may be initially hesitant about receiving help, but will appreciate genuine companionship once a relationship is established.
Responsibilities:
- Provide friendly companionship during 3-hour visits twice weekly
- Assist with meal preparation and light food prep (organizing ingredients, preparing simple meals for lunch/dinner)
- Accompany on walks and light exercise activities
- Help with basic technology troubleshooting (Apple Watch, Mac computer, music streaming)
- Play cards (cribbage, bridge) and engage in cognitively stimulating activities
- Provide gentle memory prompts and redirection as needed
- Assist with grocery shopping via Uber/taxi (no driving required)
- Monitor hydration and general wellbeing
- Complete detailed visit reports after each shift
What We're Looking For:
- Patient, calm demeanor with excellent interpersonal skills
- Experience supporting seniors with early-stage memory changes
- Knowledge of diabetic care considerations
- Comfortable with technology and able to teach basic device usage
- Reliable, consistent, and takes initiative
- Strong communication skills with family members
- Enjoys cards, classical music, and outdoor activities
- English-speaking
- Available for flexible scheduling (avoiding Tuesday/Thursday mornings during golf season)
Schedule:
Two 3-hour visits per week, preferably mid-morning to early afternoon (10:00 AM - 1:00 PM or 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM). Days flexible but ideally not back-to-back, avoiding Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Schedule may adjust seasonally as activities change. This is a long-term position with potential to increase hours as needs evolve.
