About the RoleWe're seeking an experienced veterinary assistant to join our downtown small-animal practice. This is a dual-function position bridging direct patient support and front-desk client care. You'll work alongside our veterinarians and registered technologists in a collaborative setting where dependability, empathy, and self-direction are essential.
Core ResponsibilitiesPatient & Clinical SupportProvide safe physical restraint for feline and canine patients during examinations, venipuncture, vaccination administration, and nail trims—including behaviorally challenging animals. Prepare sterile instrument packs and surgical supplies; assist with intraoperative monitoring and post-anesthetic recovery. Sanitize and disinfect examination rooms, hospital wards, kennels, and treatment spaces per infection-control protocols. Perform in-house laboratory sample processing and ensure accurate documentation in patient files.Client-Facing DutiesWelcome arriving clients, coordinate appointment flow, and manage multi-line telephone communications with professionalism. Facilitate prescription refill requests and communicate post-procedure care instructions to pet owners. Serve as a liaison between clinical staff and clients, translating medical information into accessible guidance.
QualificationsExperience: Minimum 12 months of compensated employment as a veterinary assistant within a clinical hospital environment.Animal Handling: Documented competency managing stressed, fearful, or reactive dogs and cats with low-stress techniques.Clinical Knowledge: Familiarity with veterinary medical vocabulary, core vaccine protocols, and commonly prescribed pharmaceuticals.Operational Skills: Capacity to simultaneously manage reception duties and monitor recovering patients without compromise to either.Temperament: Composed, collegial professional who maintains effectiveness during high-volume periods.
Compensation & Working ConditionsWage range: $19.00 – $22.00 per hour, scaled to relevant experience. Subsidized veterinary care and retail merchandise for staff pets.
