Position Overview: The Youth Outreach Prevention Specialist (After-School & Leadership Workshops) leads community-based programming designed to strengthen leadership, life skills, employability, and emotional resilience among youth ages 10–16. This role focuses on after-school programming, mentorship, recreation therapy integration, and leadership workshops, supporting youth to build confidence, responsibility, and a sense of purpose.
Aligned with Northwest Youth United’s prevention framework, the Specialist creates pathways for high school youth to access leadership roles, volunteer opportunities, and employability preparation, while ensuring younger participants receive structured, supportive skill-building experiences.
Report to: The Youth Outreach Prevention Specialist will be an employee of Northwest London Resource Centre (NWLRC). Day-to-Day supervision/consultation will be provided by the Youth Services Supervisor of Northwest London Resource Centre both formally and informally as determined by the project.
Qualifications: Social Service Worker Diploma, Child and Youth Worker, or education or work experience related to social services field of expertise. Extensive experience of over 3 years actively working in youth outreach and prevention programs is an asset.
Commitment: This is a full-time position (37.5 hours per week), with a schedule designed to align with peak youth participation times. Core work hours will be Tuesday through Saturday to support program delivery during after-school and weekend periods.
Wages: $25 per hour with benefits after 3-month probation period.
Responsibilities:
After-School Program Delivery
- Plan and facilitate after-school group sessions for elementary and high school participants.
- Deliver programming focused on:
- Leadership development and teamwork
- Life skills (cooking, budgeting, communication)
- Decision-making and goal setting
- Emotional regulation and resilience
Leadership & Mentorship
- Support high school youth in leadership roles, peer mentorship, and volunteer placements.
- Model positive leadership behaviours and support youth to take on responsibility.
- Encourage youth voice, agency, and community engagement.
Recreation Therapy & Well-Being
- Integrate monthly recreation therapy sessions into after-school programming.
- Support youth emotional well-being through creative, movement-based, and experiential activities.
- Reinforce coping strategies, self-care, and stress management skills.
Family & Community Engagement
- Support delivery of two annual parent workshops in partnership with CTRI.
- Maintain positive communication with parents and caregivers regarding youth progress and participation.
- Collaborate with community partners to expand youth opportunities
Prevention & Mentorship
- Provide guidance and positive role modeling to youth at risk of violence and gang involvement
- Foster safe, inclusive environments that promote belonging and confidence.
Monitoring & Evaluation
- Track youth engagement, attendance, leadership participation, and skill development.
- Collect youth feedback, reflections, and success stories
- Support pre- and post-program surveys and qualitative feedback collection.
- Support evaluation processes and reporting requirements.
Qualifications
· Demonstrated experience delivering group-based workshops and structured youth programming.
· Strong understanding of youth development, prevention-based approaches, and risk factors associated with violence and gang involvement.
· Experience in program development, implementation, and continuous improvement.
· Proven ability to build and maintain positive relationships with youth, parents/caregivers, schools, community partners, and professionals.
· Demonstrated experience working with youth from diverse cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds.
· Knowledge of trauma-informed practice; Mental Health First Aid and/or Psychological First Aid certification considered an asset.
· Experience with report writing, data collection, maintaining program statistics, and supporting evaluation.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace (including Google Forms), and database/data entry systems.
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
· Valid Driver’s License with access to a reliable vehicle.
· Successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Police Check.
· Current CPR and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain).
· Must have a valid Social Insurance Number and be legally eligible to work in Canada.
