Oakville Laser Eye Centre is a state-of-the-art ophthalmic surgical facility specializing in cataract and refractive surgery, and a Top Choice Award Winner for Ophthalmology in Oakville (2026).
We are seeking a motivated Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) to join our Ophthalmic Ambulatory Surgery Centre (ASC) on a casual basis.
This role is focused primarily on pre-operative patient care, post-operative recovery (PACU), and scrub support for ophthalmic procedures. The successful candidate will work closely with our surgeons, nursing team, and clinical staff in a collaborative, patient-focused surgical environment.
The ideal candidate has experience working in pre-operative and post-operative (PACU) patient care and possesses previous scrub experience in an operating room, ambulatory surgery centre, or surgical procedural setting. - Provide safe and effective pre-operative and post-operative (PACU) nursing care, including patient assessment (within scope), monitoring, patient education, documentation, and escalation of concerns.
- Perform intra-operative circulating duties, including patient safety checks, equipment and supply preparation, documentation, and coordination with the surgical and anesthesia team.
- Perform scrub duties where trained and competent, maintaining sterile technique and anticipating surgical needs.
- Prepare and maintain the operating room environment, ensuring required equipment, instruments, and supplies are available, functional, and safely set up.
- Monitor and document patient status and vital signs throughout the perioperative period, communicating changes promptly to appropriate team members.
- Assist with patient positioning and surgical skin preparation in accordance with standards of care and surgeon preference.
- Safely administer medications in accordance with orders, policies, and scope of practice.
- Maintain aseptic technique and initiate corrective action when breaks in sterile technique or safety standards occur.
- Ensure emergency equipment and supplies are readily available.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe surgical environment.
Requirements:
- Current Certificate of Registration in the General Class with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN).
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.

- Experience providing pre-operative and/or post-operative (PACU) patient care.
- Strong patient assessment, communication, organizational, and documentation skills.
- Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, and commitment to patient-centred care.
- Ability to work independently while recognizing when escalation or consultation is required.
