About the Opportunity
ANSJI is seeking two Restorative Justice Caseworkers (RJ Caseworkers) to support the delivery of the Nova Scotia Restorative Justice Program (NSRJP) in the Halifax Regional Municipality.
This position is a partnership role. The RJ Caseworker will be employed by ANSJI and work closely with Coverdale Courtwork Society. ANSJI provides guidance and support related to anti-Black racism and community context, while Coverdale provides operational leadership within the restorative justice program.
Reporting to the Director, Coverdale Restorative Justice, the RJ Caseworker works directly with individuals involved in restorative justice processes, including those who have caused harm and those who have been harmed. The role focuses on facilitating processes that support accountability, repair of harm, and positive outcomes for participants.
This is front-line work that requires sound judgment, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively in both community and justice system environments.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage an active caseload of restorative justice referrals.
- Meet with participants to understand their needs, perspectives, and circumstances.
- Facilitate restorative justice processes in accordance with program guidelines and principles.
- Support participants in identifying appropriate actions to address harm and move forward.
- Connect individuals to relevant services and supports, including culturally appropriate resources where available.
- Maintain communication with referral partners (police, courts, corrections, and community agencies).
- Collaborate with team members and external partners to coordinate service delivery.
- Prepare reports as required, including those related to court processes.
- Maintain accurate and timely case notes and documentation.
- Contribute to relationship-building with community organizations and justice system partners.
Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- A post-secondary degree in a relevant social sciences or humanities discipline or a combination of relevant education lived experience, and/or community-based experience in fields such as social services, justice, or community work.
- Knowledge of African Nova Scotian communities and an understanding of the impacts of anti-Black racism, particularly within the justice system.
- Experience working directly with individuals in a support, case management, or facilitation role.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to support constructive dialogue.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain organization in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience applying trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, or client-centered approaches in practice.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders, including community partners and justice system professionals.
- Knowledge of local services and supports within the Halifax Regional Municipality is considered an asset.

Employment and Working Conditions
- Travel throughout the Halifax Regional Municipality is required.
- Some evening and weekend work may be required.

Compensation & Terms of Employment
This is a full-time contract position ending March 31, 2027.
The salary range for this position is set at $ 56,746.68 per annum with benefits. ANSJI is open and willing to discuss and negotiate secondments, reciprocal arrangements, and leave. We invite all expressions of interest.
