About The Conscious Market:
We are a brand new market shop, cafe, and soon to be event space in Eugenia! Our shop offers house-made take home meals & baked goods, curated groceries, salad bar & hot table, and cafe drinks all inspired by local & seasonal produce. In summer 2026, we will expand to open a small event space, and offer summer treats for patrons to enjoy on the patio.
We are a sister business to The Conscious Farm Kitchen, a farm-to-table prepared meal delivery service that helps people eat in alignment with their values delivering to many towns around the area. The Conscious Kitchen is a proud women & queer owned business.
The Opportunity:
We are looking for someone who has many years of experience working retail, grocery or in cafes- as well as kitchen prep experience. We want to find someone who is prepared to be handed a lot of responsibility, and in turn receive room for creativity, flexibility, respect, and feel valued with yearly raises & benefits. You will typically be working alone, and in a rural location.
This role is multifaceted – mainly focusing on staffing the small shop & cafe – but will also include some kitchen prep before your shift making sandwiches, baking bread etc. There are times of hustle, and slow periods- so you must be excellent with time-management.
This is a full-time position, with the schedule still evolving. Right now we are thinking:
Thursday 11 - 7
Friday 11- 7
Saturday 11- 7
Sunday 11 - 5
Hours will shift seasonally.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Retail Work:
- Stocking & facing shelves + fridges + freezers with products
- Monitoring stock
- Chatting with customers & locals
- Washing & sanitizing tools & counters, sweeping & mopping, etc.
- Unloading shipments of ingredients (lifting up to 50 lbs frequently)
- General cleaning & upkeep
- Taking photos/video if you have the skills!
Cafe/Kitchen Work:
- Preparing coffee, teas, and smoothies on demand
- Heating/building sandwiches & wraps
- Setting up salad bar & hot table daily
- Serving bowls & salads
- Packaging baked goods & breads
- Baking breads & light baked goods
- Kitchen prep
Critical Skills:
- At least 3 years working in a retail, grocery or cafe environment
- Extremely detail oriented & independent
- A natural inclination to want to be meticulously clean!! (not extreme-but cleaner than average!)
- A decent knowledge of seasonal & plant-based cooking-preferably from a professional setting
- Strong work ethic, attention to efficiency and ability to handle responsibility
- Confidence & experience driving in rural winters & various road conditions
- Preference given to those who live close to Eugenia given road conditions in the winter
- Above average ability to multitask!
