Archaeological Field Director
Detritus Consulting is growing — and we’re looking for an experienced Archaeological Field Director to lead projects out of our Niagara and Hamilton offices.
We are a leading Ontario archaeological consultancy with offices in Kitchener, Niagara, and Hamilton. Our team delivers high-quality archaeological assessments and provides expert guidance through Ontario’s provincial archaeological process. Responsibilities
· Lead and supervise archaeological field crews
· Oversee field investigations and ensure compliance with Ontario’s Standards and Guidelines
· Manage documentation, data collection, and reporting accuracy
· Conduct GIS mapping and spatial analysis
· Travel to project sites throughout the region
Qualifications
· Applied Research Licence (Ontario Ministry of Citizenship & Multiculturalism)
· Strong working knowledge of Ontario’s Standards and Guidelines for Consultant Archaeologists
· Valid driver’s licence with a clean record
· Experience leading crews in outdoor field environments
· GIS experience (preferred)
· Ability to work in physically demanding outdoor conditions
Compensation & Benefits
· Competitive hourly compensation (based on experience)
· Haulage reimbursement and some commute reimbursement based on distance ($0.73/km)
· Typical work week: 37.5–44 hours, Monday–Friday
· Overtime opportunities may be available
