Forklift Operator – Job Description

Hours of Work: 3pm to 11:30pm
Position Summary:
The Forklift Operator is responsible for safely operating a forklift to support daily warehouse and cooler operations. This includes moving, organizing, and rotating raw materials and fresh-cut products, performing equipment checks, and assisting with inventory control to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and compliance with food safety regulations.
· It is imperative to follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Food Safety Rules (CCPs), and Health and Safety
· It is critical to ensure all processes are controlled and traceable for Recall.
· Ensure accurate documentation of information is completed/verified
· Print and Verify Labels being used throughout the process for lot code traceability
· Other duties as assigned
Key Responsibilities:
· Equipment & Safety Checks
· Conduct daily forklift inspection and complete checklists, reporting any issues immediately.
· Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
· Material Handling & Organization
· Measure and record products by SKU, ensuring proper process is followed to ensure traceability. (e.g., lot codes traceability from the incoming to the outgoing process
· Move raw material skids (e.g., pineapple, cantaloupe, honeydew) between coolers.
· Organize storage rooms and cooler areas for efficiency and accessibility.
· Rotate fresh-cut material supplies with older stock to maintain product quality.
· Drain watermelon bins and handle other produce as required.
· Inventory & Stock Management
· Perform inventory checks of dry goods and raw materials.
· Verify raw materials in inventory for accuracy.
· Check and maintain specific produce stocks (e.g., cauliflower, YFM pallets).
· Fix or reorganize pallets in poor condition (e.g., wet or leaning).
· Housekeeping & Compliance
· Keep work areas clean, safe, and organized.
· Ensure all products are stored according to company standards and food safety regulations.
Qualifications:
· Valid forklift license/certification (or willingness to obtain).
· Previous experience in a warehouse, food production, or distribution environment preferred.
· Ability to lift and move heavy loads safely.
· Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
· Good communication and teamwork abilities.
Work Conditions:
· Work performed in coolers and storage areas (cold environment).
· Requires physical activity, including lifting, bending, and standing for long periods.
