About the team
The Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation Disability Services team provides day-to-day administration for the Teachers’ Long Term Disability Plan and rehabilitation back-to-work services to teachers.
What you’ll do
The Vocational Rehabilitation Consultant works in a collaborative environment that is focused on providing exceptional member experience and service excellence. The Vocational Rehabilitation Consultant is responsible for a variety of professional and analytical activities and delivery of vocational rehabilitation services for the Teachers’ Long-Term Disability (LTD) Plan. Through effective case management, documentation, and use of community resources, this position promotes realistic vocational goals and positive employment outcomes in alignment with the LTD Plan and organizational values.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide effective, consistent and timely delivery of vocational rehabilitation services and assessments that support re-entry into active employment.
- Manage a caseload of vocational rehabilitation referrals.

Work with members, health care providers, and senior administrative staff to ensure accurate understanding of claimant’s vocational and medical accommodation needs to assess work-readiness and promote timely return-to-work plans.

Facilitate collaborative return-to-work planning meetings with stakeholders in the return-to-work process.

Prepare written return-to-work plans or formal documentation supporting a written return-to-work plan by another qualified stakeholder.

Motivate and assist members in formulating realistic vocational goals; provide support and guidance to enhance the vocational rehabilitation process.

Ensure claimant system records are accurate and up-to-date, and documentation of all vocational rehabilitation activity and reporting is completed with professional objectivity.

Conduct comprehensive initial and ongoing vocational rehabilitation assessments, including Transferrable Skills Analysis and Labour Market Search and prepare written vocational plans.

Liaise and coordinate with Senior Administrative Staff and school boards regarding services such as work accommodations, job preparation, etc.

Monitor members’ vocational rehabilitation progress and adjust vocational plans as needed.

Prepare written reports regarding referral goals and outcomes.

Maintain collaborative and trusting working relationships with all internal staff involved in providing effective vocational rehabilitation services to claimants.

Research, develop, and maintain a network of community resources/services that support vocational rehabilitation.

Provide recommendations to the Senior Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist regarding external service providers where appropriate.
What you’ll bring
- An undergraduate degree in rehabilitation case management, health sciences, social sciences, human resources, education or related field, combined with 2 – 3 years of disability related vocational rehabilitation experience. A recognized professional designation (e.g., CVRP, RTWDM, RVP/RRP, or equivalent) is required.
- Certification in vocational assessment methods (e.g., Transferable Skills Analysis, Labour Market Survey, Vocational Evaluation, PGAP) is an asset.
- Vocational rehabilitation assessment and return-to-work planning experience.

Highly effective problem solving and interpersonal skills, including demonstrated listening skills with the ability to quickly identify relevant issues and stakeholder needs.

Proven work standards including high degree of initiative and motivation.

Highly effective communication skills.

Established time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.

Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft suite and disability management systems.
The incumbent must have a valid Saskatchewan driver’s license as this position requires some travel within Saskatchewan.
