Empringham Disposal is growing, and we’re looking for an experienced 3/4 year Apprentice Heavy Equipment Mechanic (HET) to join our team. Position Summary
3/4 year Apprentice Heavy Equipment Technician responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy‑duty construction, mining, forestry, and industrial machinery. Duties include troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems, performing preventative maintenance, completing component rebuilds, and ensuring all equipment meets safety and performance standards. Role requires interpreting technical manuals, documenting repairs, collaborating with operators to reduce downtime, and supporting apprentices while maintaining strong safety and professionalism.
Duties
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and engine issues on heavy equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and system checks.
- Repair or replace faulty components and document all work.
- Collaborate with team members to resolve issues and reduce downtime.
- Mentor apprentices and uphold safety and quality standards.
- Follow all safety procedures, attend training, and report incidents.
Education and Experience
- Registered HET Apprentice with AIT.
- Strong electrical diagnostics and repair skills for diesel‑engine systems.
- Proficient with hand and power tools used in heavy‑duty repair.
- Solid understanding of equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair standards.
- Physically able to perform heavy lifting and demanding repair tasks.
- Experienced in hydraulic system diagnostics and repair; experience with garbage collection equipment is an asset.
Additional Skills
- Works independently while following set routes, schedules, and maintenance priorities.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with solid knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and heavy‑equipment systems.
- Communicates effectively with a professional, customer‑focused approach.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to perform in demanding environments.
- Adaptable to changing priorities, weather, and operational needs.
- Contributes efficiently both independently and within cross‑functional teams.

Working Conditions
- Indoor and Outdoor work in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow).
- Monday - Friday established shift, overtime or weekend work may be required.
- Frequent lifting, climbing, bending, and walking.
- Steel toed boots are required.
- This is considered a safety-sensitive position
