- A valid Certification of Registration from the Ontario College of Teachers

Special Education Specialist
Position Criteria:
-
Knowledge of alternative program development, implementation and assessment for elementary students with special education needs, including but not limited to acquisition of life skills, self-regulation, self-care, communication and functional literacy and numeracy skills that vary from the Provincial Curriculum

Demonstrated knowledge regarding the creation and implementation of individual education plans for students with varying needs, including students with autism and developmental disabilities

Demonstrated experience with successful use of ABA strategies and BMS strategies

Demonstrated ability to work successfully as a member of multidisciplinary team including educational assistants, outside agency staff and clinicians/therapists
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate daily communication, team meetings and case conferences
- Experience developing Individual Education Plans, Behaviour Management Plans, Plans of Care and Transition Plans for individual students
- Evidence of on-going professional development, including technology integration for teaching/learning and assessment
- Knowledge of trauma-informed instructional practices and approaches, considered an asset
