Job Summary:
We are looking for a detail-oriented Industrial Painter / Prep & Paint Technician to join our manufacturing team. This role is responsible for preparing metal components for painting, applying protective or finish coatings, and ensuring high-quality results that meet all customer and specification requirements.
You will play a critical role in the final stages of production—ensuring all parts are properly prepared, painted, and documented prior to assembly or shipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare, mask, sand, grind, and hang parts for paint or coating processes.
- Mix paint and materials uniformly, ensuring proper viscosity, shelf life, and application standards.
- Apply primers and topcoats using spray equipment, adjusting settings as needed to meet specifications (including mil thickness and gloss).
- Inspect and test coatings for proper finish, gloss, adhesion, and thickness using gauges/meters.
- Touch up, buff, and perform surface repairs as required.
- Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and paint instructions.
- Complete all required documentation, including paint cards, flow charts, thickness records, and traceability logs.
- Operate overhead cranes and safely move parts through production stages on schedule.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and workstations in clean, safe working condition.
- Follow all company safety protocols, including use of PPE (e.g., respirators, gloves, goggles).
- May perform additional related duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in industrial or aerospace paint/prep environments.
- Strong understanding of surface preparation, masking, and paint mixing techniques.
- Ability to read blueprints and work to technical specifications.
- Familiarity with paint testing equipment (thickness gauges, gloss meters, etc.).
- Ability to follow traceability and documentation protocols accurately.
- Overhead crane experience an asset.
- Comfortable working in a physically demanding environment with exposure to noise, fumes, and heat.
Ideal Candidate:
- Surface Prep Expert: You have hands-on experience with sanding, grinding, masking, and cleaning metal surfaces, and understand how critical proper preparation is for a flawless finish.
- Coating Precision: You apply primers, topcoats, and protective finishes with accuracy—controlling spray patterns, adjusting pressure settings, and meeting exact thickness and gloss requirements.
- Documentation-Driven: You understand the importance of traceability and consistently complete paint cards, flow charts, and measurement logs with precision and accountability.
- Inspection Mindset: You take the time to visually and physically inspect your work using gauges and meters, ensuring that each part meets spec before it moves forward.
- Physically & Safety Ready: You’re comfortable working in a fast-paced, physical environment, always wearing proper PPE and following protocols to protect yourself, your team, and the product.
