Job description
Lark Seeds Canada is seeking individuals to assist with seasonal activities for their processing tomato breeding program located in the Leamington Ontario area. This position will support the breeding team in tomato plot upkeep, fruit quality sampling, seed harvest and other seasonal duties. This position will be for approximately 8 weeks starting in August with a minimum of 40 hours per week. Agriculture experience is an asset and an interest in breeding and research would be beneficial for this position. The successful incumbent must have a valid driver’s license and their own vehicle for use as needed between tomato field and office. Mileage will be compensated.
Job Details:
· $20.00 Hourly
· Full-time, August to October
· 5-days a week, steady 8-hour per day shift, possible extended hours depending on deadlines.
Job Responsibilities:
· Assist in weeding of tomato field plots.
· Assist in picking tomatoes for quality testing and seed harvest.
· Assist in collecting quality and yield data as needed.
· Assist in tomato seed harvest, washing and performing treatments as requested.
· Assist with other field duties as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Agriculture experience is an asset.
· Interest and experience in breeding and research is beneficial.
· Ability to communicate effectively.
· Ability to perform duties as requested.
Physical Abilities:
· Must be physically fit and able to lift heavy material (i.e. up to 23 kg / 50lbs.)
· Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time in all types of weather conditions.
Requirements:
· Must have valid driver’s license and vehicle.
