Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Educator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing and delivering engaging educational programs tailored to diverse audiences.
Duties
- This position will provide outdoor education to children, school groups and the public, sharing science education in an outdoor setting.
- You will run workshops for school groups at parks, beaches and greenspaces; provide nature interpretation to the public; and work with Nanaimo Science to provide environmental education to children and youth.
- Running Nanaimo Science summer camps (e.g. working at camps, preparing materials for activities, helping with clean up and organization, supervising children throughout the day, and ensuring that they are safe at all times)
- This is a flex position, so you may be assigned to any of the programming locations depending on staffing levels and the needs of the participants.
Skills
- Have a passion for outreach and teaching science;
- Be a self-motivated and conscientious person who can work independently and in teams;
- Ideally have experience working with children in a camp or educational setting;
- Be willing and able to work outside with groups of children in all types of weather;
- Ideally have a full drivers' license and comfortable driving our Science on the Move vehicles.
- Be able to lift up to 35 lbs; and
- Canadian citizen or permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada
- Between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
- Be willing to have a criminal background check for work with vulnerable sector individuals.
