We are seeking skilled and dependable Hardscape Installer to join our crew.
Daedalus Contracting is a hardscaping specialist — we build Allan Block retaining walls, paver patios, walkways and driveways, stacked stone walls, and synthetic turf across the Lower Mainland.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience installing segmental block walls and/or pavers, and understands that every wall and every patio lives or dies on the base prep underneath it.
This is not a general labourer posting. We're looking for installers who can run a laser, screed a base, and set a first course dead level without being babysat. If that's you, we'll pay for it — and there's a clear path to lead hand and foreman as we grow.
Duties
- Build segmental retaining walls (Allan Block and similar systems) — excavation, base prep, leveling course, drainage and backfill, geogrid, capping
- Install pavers (patios, walkways, driveways)
- excavation to grade, sub-base and base compaction, screeding, laying patterns, cuts, edge restraint, polymeric sand- Perform paver reset and repair
- diagnose failed base, lift and re-lay existing pavers correctly
- Build garden walls and raised planter beds
- small block systems and stacked natural stone- Install synthetic turf
- excavation, base, weed barrier, seaming, infill, edging- Install proper drainage systems
- perforated drain pipe (big-O), drain rock, filter fabric, catch basins, downspout tie-ins, and grading for surface water management
- Read and interpret site plans and scope drawings to ensure accurate installation- Set grade with laser levels, string lines, and transits
- Operate hand tools, power tools, plate compactors, and demo/wet saws safely and effectively- Assist with excavation, grading, and site preparation activities
- Coordinate with the crew to meet project timelines while maintaining safety standards- Maintain a clean work environment and ensure all tools and equipment are properly cared for
Experience
- Real-world experience installing block retaining walls, pavers, or both is essential- Strong base prep fundamentals —
- excavating to grade, lift-by-lift compaction, screeding bedding sand or fines, checking grade and slope for drainage- Familiarity with plate compactors / jumping jacks, laser levels, string lines, and grade setting is essential
- Ability to read site plans and scope drawings and execute accurately- Mini-excavator or skid steer experience is an asset
- Certification or Allan Block installer training is an asset- Experience with geogrid-reinforced walls or walls over 4 ft is an asset
- Natural stone / dry-stack stone experience is an asset
- Experience installing drainage systems (perforated pipe, catch basins, French drains) is an asset- Experience installing artificial / synthetic turf is an asset
- Additional skills or knowledge of decks and concrete form work an asset but not required
- Physically capable of demanding outdoor work
- Lifting block and pavers, working in all weather
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to job sites- Safety-minded; familiar with WorkSafeBC standards.
Pay: $30.00-$40.00 per hour
