Job Description: Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic - Surrey B.C.
We are looking for a HD Equipment Mechanic who possesses the expertise to service various types of specialized industrial and municipal equipment. This position will be mobile the majority of the time, and is perfect for a highly motivated mechanic that is interested in pursuing a career managing a service department. The successful candidate will possess leadership qualities as we intend to build the service department around them. For the right candidate this can result in management opportunities. Our Surrey (Port Kells) location has been in operation for 15 years and we are expanding by opening a shop to service our customers.
Responsibilities
- Performing mobile service work and traveling to customer sites as required.
- Running diagnostic tests on heavy trucks, and industrial, and municipal equipment for proper performance, and inspecting equipment to detect faults and malfunctions.
- Analyzing diagnostic faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment to determine the extent of repair(s) required.
- Utilizing advanced knowledge of CAN Bus networks, Multiplex wiring systems, and electrical diagnosing to resolve complex issues.
- Adjusting equipment and repairing or replacing defective parts, components, or systems, using hand and power tools.
- Perform customer service responsibilities and occasionally source new opportunities, working with the sales department.
- Testing repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturers' specifications.
- Cleaning, lubricating, and performing other routine maintenance work on all equipment, and attachments/components.
- Servicing attachments and working tools on heavy trucks, and industrial, and municipal equipment.
- Attaching components and making adjustments on new equipment.
- Participating in required factory training.
- Providing assistance to other divisions at the Surrey location.
- Completing driver logs and completing vehicle inspections (pre-trip & post trip inspections)
- Performing on site FLHA and required safety documentation.
- Managing a company vehicle, including maintenance, inspections, inventory, and tooling.
- Maintaining a clean work area and vehicle.
- Cross-training with our Lift Division will be required to frequently service automotive lifts/hoists and other garage equipment.
Requirements & Skills
- Management and leadership characteristics as the plan is to build the department around the successful candidate.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Trade certification and proven work experience as a diesel or heavy-duty equipment mechanic, with Heavy Duty dealer experience preferred.
- Experience with mobile trucks and a strong background in diesel engines and industrial equipment.
- Familiarity with computer testing technologies, IT, and diagnostic skills.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license and clean driving record, with the ability to drive pulling a trailer.
- Class 3 license preferred for additional proficiency.
- Prior certification or experience in forklift operation, loading, offloading, and load securement.
- Ability to work after-hours and travel (including occasional overnight stays) as necessary.
Related Physical & Safety Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment components, parts, and tools weighing up to 75 lbs.
- Ability to push/pull up to 1500 lbs.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces and climbing heavy equipment for inspection and repairs.
- Working at heights with Fall Protection on heavy equipment.
- Strong critical thinking skills for efficient troubleshooting.
- Tolerance for occasional exposure to environmental elements during work.
- Electronic Logging Device (ELD) use is required.
- Commitment to safety protocols, related training, and PPE usage.

Compensation & Benefits
Compensation is dependent on prior experience and certifications and will be discussed with selected candidates.
· Pay: $47 - $55 per hour.
- Incentives: Attractive incentive bonuses can be discussed for a candidate interested in developing the service department.
- Hours: Full-time, Permanent, 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 8:00 – 4:30).
