Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated Heavy Equipment Mechanic Apprentice to join our team. This position offers hands-on training and the opportunity to develop specialized skills in maintaining and repairing a variety of heavy machinery and industrial equipment. The ideal candidate will be eager to learn, possess strong mechanical aptitude, and have a passion for working with heavy equipment such as excavators, cranes, forklifts, and farm machinery. Duties
- Assist experienced mechanics in diagnosing and repairing heavy equipment and vehicles
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, and inspections
- Learn to diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and pnematic system issues
- Assist in repairing engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, suspension and hydraulic coomponents
- Use hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and other maintenance tools safely and effectively
- Support the assembly, disassembly, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems
- Conduct basic electrical repairs on industrial equipment under supervision
- Participate in heavy lifting tasks and operate heavy equipment as part of training
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment to ensure safety compliance
- Follow safety protocols diligently during all repair and maintenance activities
- Communicate with customers and suppliers and prepare quotations
Skills
- Registered as a Heavy Equipment Technician Apprentice
- Skilled trade schooling completed
- Mechanical aptitude and a strong interest in heavy equipment repair
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, welding techniques, and schematics
- Ability to operate heavy machinery such as excavators, forklifts, trucks, trailers or agricultural equipment a must
- Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and work in physically demanding environments
- Good communication skills with a focus on customer service when interacting with team members or clients
- Willingness to learn electrical systems related to industrial equipment and automotive repair techniques
