The Transmission Sustainment Planning Specialist Asset Management Engineer is responsible for the development of
maintenance and sustainment strategies for the transmission lines assets ensure it continues to safely meet the operating
capabilities required by stakeholders and to enhance return on investment. The Specialist Engineer will be primarily
responsible for strategic asset management planning and lead the development of Asset Management Plans, Asset Class
Strategies, Asset Health Methodologies, Capital Investment Plans, Asset Information Strategies, and associated
Maintenance Standards.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Lead the development of Asset Management Plans, Asset Class Strategies, Asset Health Methodologies, Capital
Investment Plans, and Asset Information Strategies.
- Be a technical leader and resource within BC Hydro asset management principles and applications.
- Develops maintenance and sustainment strategies to optimize asset performance and life cycle cost of overhead lines
assets in their portfolio across the province while balancing business requirements.
- Develops a long term Asset Maintain/Sustain Investment Plan and rolling budget based on asset maintenance and
sustainment strategies, current asset condition and health, and changes in performance expectations from stakeholders,
regulators and the asset owner.
- Develops annual sustain and maintain work plans and budgets consistent with strategies, standards and investment
plans; balances and determines priorities, collaborates with other Integrated Planning groups on alternatives and impacts,
and assigns the work program to Program and Contract Management or Capital Infrastructure Project Delivery for
execution.
- Develops maintenance standards, asset strategies and asset policies to ensure continued reliability and system
performance, minimal lifecycle cost, effective stewardship of the environment and safety of employees and the public.
- Leads the technical, financial and environmental assessment and root cause analysis of asset performance and condition,
and determines investment requirements based on risk, cost benefit analysis and customer needs.
- Monitors execution of the work program in accordance with performance standards, resolves major or escalated operating
or maintenance related problems and concerns, and provides direction for contingency planning and emergency spare
equipment and material management.
- Works closely with other Integrated Planning groups regarding impacts of maintenance and sustainment on system
performance and future plans for improvements to the system; proposes alternatives for increasing/improving system
capacity and balancing costs and benefits.
- Confers with and provides consultative advice and input to operational, design, project and other groups to ensure
