Position Summary
The Sanitation Supervisor is responsible for leading the sanitation team to ensure all production equipment, machinery, utensils, and facility areas are cleaned and sanitized to the highest food safety standards. This role is essential in maintaining a safe, hygienic, and production-ready environment while ensuring compliance with all food safety, quality assurance, and occupational health and safety requirements.
The successful candidate will possess exceptional attention to detail, ensuring that every aspect of the sanitation process is completed accurately, consistently, and in accordance with company procedures and regulatory standards. Working closely with the Production, Maintenance, and Quality Assurance teams, the Sanitation Supervisor will oversee daily sanitation operations, provide leadership and training, and promote a culture of accountability, food safety, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise, schedule, and coordinate the daily activities of the sanitation team.
- Ensure all production equipment, machinery, tools, utensils, and facility areas are cleaned and sanitized in accordance with established sanitation procedures, Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs), and company standards.
- Oversee the safe disassembly, cleaning, inspection, and reassembly of production equipment, ensuring equipment is properly cleaned, sanitized, and ready for production.
- Conduct thorough pre-operational and post-operational inspections to verify that production areas meet cleanliness, sanitation, food safety, and operational standards before production begins.
- Demonstrate exceptional attention to detail by identifying and correcting sanitation deficiencies, potential contamination risks, equipment residue, and conditions requiring corrective action.
- Ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), HACCP principles, allergen control programs, sanitation protocols, WHMIS requirements, chemical handling procedures, and all company food safety, quality, and health and safety policies.
- Complete, review, and maintain accurate sanitation records, inspection reports, cleaning logs, and verification documentation to support internal, customer, and regulatory audits.
- Collaborate with Production, Maintenance, and Quality Assurance teams to identify sanitation, equipment, and food safety concerns, implementing timely corrective and preventive actions.
- Recruit, train, coach, and mentor sanitation team members while fostering accountability, teamwork, continuous improvement, and adherence to sanitation procedures.
- Ensure the safe handling, storage, dilution, and application of cleaning chemicals, sanitation equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Monitor sanitation chemical and supply inventories to ensure uninterrupted operations and compliance with safety requirements.
- Investigate sanitation-related issues, implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs), and verify the effectiveness of corrective measures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and audit-ready facility at all times.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance sanitation effectiveness, operational efficiency, food safety, and product quality.
Qualifications
- Minimum of three (3) years of sanitation experience in a food manufacturing environment, preferably within a commercial bakery or food processing facility.
- Previous supervisory or team leadership experience is required.
- Strong knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), HACCP principles, allergen control programs, sanitation procedures, environmental cleaning, and food safety regulations.
- Thorough understanding of WHMIS, chemical handling procedures, sanitation chemicals, and occupational health and safety requirements.
- Experience operating sanitation equipment and using industrial cleaning chemicals safely and effectively.
- Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to identify sanitation deficiencies, verify cleaning effectiveness, and maintain accurate documentation.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks while maintaining high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and food safety in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other basic computer applications, with experience maintaining sanitation records, reports, and audit documentation.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including standing for extended periods, lifting, bending, climbing, and working around manufacturing equipment.
- Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
