Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Shelter Worker to join our team. The Shelter Worker plays a vital role in providing support and assistance to individuals experiencing homelessness or crisis situations. This position requires a strong commitment to helping others, as well as the ability to maintain a safe and welcoming environment within the shelter. The ideal candidate will have experience in social services or hold a diploma in mental health and addictions.
Responsibilities
- Provide support and assistance to shelter residents, addressing their needs with empathy and respect.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all residents by maintaining a clean and organized environment.
- Facilitate communication between residents and external and internal service providers, including caseworker and outreach resources.
- Conduct intake assessments for new residents, gathering necessary information to provide appropriate support.
- Organize and lead group activities or workshops that promote personal development and community engagement.
- Maintain accurate records of resident interactions, incidents, and services provided in compliance with organizational policies.
- Collaborate with other team members to develop strategies for improving shelter services and resident outcomes.
Experience
- Background in social work, Mental health and addictions diploma or PSW.
- Experience working with vulnerable populations, particularly those facing homelessness or crisis situations.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups of people.
