Payroll Specialist (Contract)
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to join our team for approximately one year to support accurate, compliant, and timely execution of payroll operations and system integration activities with iA Financial Group.
The successful candidate will develop deep expertise in Richardson Wealth’s payroll processes and systems and will play a critical role in ensuring continuity of payroll operations. This includes the ability to independently lead payroll processing and act as a key backup during periods of absence, transition, or increased workload.
This role operates in a dynamic and evolving environment, requiring strong analytical capability, adaptability, and a collaborative, team-oriented approach.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Process multi-provincial payroll (including Quebec) for hourly, salaried and commission-based employees
- Independently manage full-cycle payroll processing, including validation, reconciliation, and issue resolution
- May serve as final approver for payroll runs (pre- and post-commit), ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance
- Ensure all payroll elements are processed accurately, including earnings, deductions, taxes, remittances, and third-party payments
- Develop the capability to lead payroll operations end-to-end as a backup during absences or transitions
- Support continuity of payroll delivery and collaborate with team members to balance workloads
- Support payroll-related integration activities, including system transitions (Dayforce to Workday), testing, and data validation
- Maintain payroll operations continuity during periods of organizational and system change
- Ensure compliance with payroll legislation and statutory reporting requirements (e.g., WSIB, EHT)
- Prepare payroll reconciliations and support audit processes
- Support year-end reporting, including T4s and T2200 preparation and distribution
- Address complex payroll and taxation inquiries, including Advisor-specific scenarios, with a high-touch service approach
- Communicate effectively with employees, managers, and stakeholders regarding payroll matters
- Prepare payroll reporting and analysis, including support for Finance (e.g., bonus accruals)
- Utilize Excel and reporting tools to analyze data and identify discrepancies
- Maintain data integrity across payroll, HRIS, and benefits systems
- Track payroll processes, perform audits, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
- Provide back-up coverage and support HR or Total Rewards initiatives as required
Qualifications
- 5 - 7+ years of progressive Canadian payroll experience in a complex, multi-jurisdictional environment
- Wealth Management industry experience (asset)
- Proven ability to independently manage full-cycle payroll
- Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, taxation, and compliance requirements
- Experience with commission-based compensation structures
- Advanced Excel and data analysis skills (preferred)
- Experience with Ceridian Dayforce (preferred) and Workday (asset)
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, evolving environment
- Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts
- High level of professionalism, confidentiality, and discretion |
Education
- College diploma or equivalent experience
- PCP designation (or in progress) preferred
Location
Downtown Toronto
Hybrid work model with on-site presence of at least 2 days per week, particularly during key payroll processing periods

The expected annualized base salary range for this role is $75,000 - $90, 000. The actual salary offered will take into consideration a wide array of factors including, but not limited to, the individual’s skill, experience, education and training, and the consideration of internal equity. This role is a contract opportunity and doesn’t offer benefits.
