General Description:
The Operations Technician is responsible for maintaining residential buildings by completing maintenance and repair tasks in common areas and residents’ homes. This includes troubleshooting and repairing plumbing, electrical, mechanical systems, appliances, and building equipment. The role also involves responding to work orders, performing inspections, supporting building operations, and ensuring properties are safe, well-maintained, and operating efficiently.
This role is a part of an on-call rotation and must be available for evening, night, and weekend scheduling.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Operations Technician will perform repairs to our buildings and residential units and play an important role in providing a best-in-class living experience for our residents by:
- Repairing plumbing fixtures and systems
- Performing minor electrical repairs or modifications to standard household wiring and fixtures
- Inspecting and servicing mechanical & heating equipment systems
- Inspecting and servicing household appliances
- Monitoring and adjusting when appropriate, the building systems (HVAC, elevators, life safety, etc.)
- Reporting any problems to the office or contractors.
- Performing any necessary repairs to, or installation of, interior wall and floor finishes and cabinetry.
- Minor carpentry and masonry repairs on building exteriors, and repairs
- Replacing any locking systems and devices.
- At times, there may be Grounds keeping and cleaning duties
- Delivering materials, notices, and equipment
- Providing assistance to other staff to enable completion of work in a timely and secure manner
- Responding on a 24 hour/day basis, when on call
- Initiating work orders on handheld devices and providing written or narrated descriptions of work completed
- Observing and reporting on the state of repair of various elements of our Accora Village properties
- Estimating material and labor requirements for proposed work
- Complying with all Occupational Health and Safety practices and regulations
- Assist in maintaining an inventory of equipment and materials
- Perform such other duties as may from time to time be assigned
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Secondary School Diploma –or Equivalent
- 3 years of relevant experience with property maintenance, or equivalent demonstrated work experience is expected (demonstrated general maintenance skills, carpentry, cabinetry, plumbing, electrical and mechanical, as well as troubleshooting and on call experience)
- Trade certification in a relevant field is an asset
- Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements
- Must be able to work and problem solve in a variety of adverse conditions
- History of continuous updating of job knowledge especially with respect to code changes and technological advancement, for building systems and construction methods through workshops, conferences, seminars, self-study
- The ability to work on-call, evening, night, and weekend scheduling is required.
- Valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License and reliable vehicle
- As a condition of employment, must have a valid Criminal Background Check
- Reasonable fluency in written and verbal English. Other language skills are an asset
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Interior and exterior work in all weather conditions
- Frequent exposure to driving in all weather conditions
- Exposure to unsanitary conditions, noise, dust, and fumes

Compensation: $50,000 annually
