Job Overview
The Field Technician (Drilling Fluids) supports safe, efficient drilling operations by delivering on-site technical service. This role prepares, mobilizes, operates, and maintains fluid systems, provides troubleshooting and optimization recommendations, and ensures accurate field reporting and inventory control across multiple sites, drilling disciplines and customers.
Responsibilities:
- Advise in mixing, and maintaining drilling fluid systems to meet program targets (e.g., density, viscosity, gels, filtration, pH/alkalinity, lubricity) and site-specific requirements.
- Conduct routine field testing, interpret results, and implement treatment plans; document chemical additions and system changes.
- Monitor fluid performance indicators and drilling parameters to identify trends (e.g., poor hole cleaning, torque/drag, losses, dilution, contamination) and recommend corrective actions.
- Manage on-site chemical and consumable inventory; coordinate resupply, verify deliveries.
- Support solids-control and fluid-handling equipment operation (as applicable): shakers/screens, centrifuge, mixing systems, pumps, and tanks.
- Assist with waste handling, and environmental compliance related to fluids and cuttings.
- Practice situational awareness as it pertains to all other facets of Di-Corps business and report on other opportunities for sales to deepen and broaden our sell to customers.
- Complete daily/shift reports for fluids tests, treatments, inventories, submit on time and to required distribution.
- Escalate non-conformances, equipment failures, or safety/environmental incidents promptly and participate in follow-up investigations and corrective actions.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Education:
- High school diploma or GED required; post-secondary training in drilling, petroleum/energy, geology, or a related field is an asset.
- 2+ years of field experience in drilling operations, drilling fluids, coring operations, or drilling tooling/hardware support (combination of experience considered).
- Valid driver’s license and ability to pass site access requirements (fitness-for-work, drug & alcohol testing where applicable).
- Comfortable working rotating shifts, extended hours, and on-call schedules; willingness to travel and work in remote locations.
- Forklift/telehandler, WHMIS/GHS, H2S Alive, First Aid/CPR, and other industry safety training are assets (requirements may vary by site/client).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of drilling fluid properties, testing methods, treatment chemicals, and solids-control concepts.
- Ability to read and follow procedures, programs, and tool assembly drawings; strong attention to detail and documentation.
- Strong communication skills with rig crews, supervisors, and clients; ability to provide clear recommendations.
- Proficient with basic computer use for reporting (spreadsheets, mobile reporting apps, email).
- Bi-lingual (French and English) would be an asset.

Pay: $95,000.00-$125,000.00 per year
