Mission Thrift Store Red Deer is a busy, high quality, not for profit thrift store located in Red Deer, Alberta. We are a diverse, friendly, and fun community that thrives because of the work of over 160 volunteers and a few paid staff.
We are currently seeking a Retail Supervisor who will fit in with our staff and bring a variety of skills that will make us even better. This position reports to the Store Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
Retail
- Assess the retail floor for appropriate quantity and quality of merchandise
- Oversee cash opening and closing
- Meet with store leadership team each morning to determine priorities for the day and communicate merchandise needs on the sales floor
- Collaborate throughout the day with the Production Supervisor and Volunteer Coordinator to ensure adequate merchandise is processed for sale
- Review store displays and general tidiness to make customer shopping experience easy and enjoyable
- Ensure customers are receiving fast, friendly service upon checkout, and stepping in to help cashiers during high volume periods
- Ensure the POS equipment and machines are functioning properly
Leadership
- Supervise the staff and volunteer cashiers
- Meet with cashiers regularly at beginning of each shift, ensuring that all is ready for store opening and front is adequately staffed for the day
- Ensure cashiers are well trained and understand the expectations of the cashier role
- Encourage and motivate cashiers to maintain the high quality of service that our customers greatly value
- In collaboration with the Store Manager, conduct formal performance conversations and discipline on customer service matters
- Ensure work place safety and health standards are followed by all sales floor staff and volunteers
- Regularly lead morning staff and volunteer meeting, which includes sharing a brief inspiring, bible-based devotional

Physical Requirements
- May involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and moving merchandise and tools, climbing a ladder.
- May involve quickly responding to public address system announcements, including customer services calls, pages, and general information.
- Moving around the store and being able to communicate with and assist associates & customers.
Working Conditions
- Working within a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekends.
Minimum Education:
- High school Diploma or Equivalent
Minimum Years of Work Experience
- 2 years of customer service experience an asset
- 1 to 2 years Retail or Trade experience required
- Supervisory experience required
