BFM Foundation (Canada) is a national Christian organization with over 50 Mission Thrift Stores across Canada. Mission Thrift Stores are the fund raising arm of the foundations. Fund raising is accomplished through the operation of a thrift store, converting used donated goods into cash through retail sales. The net revenue from all Mission Thrift Stores is devoted to Joint Ministry of BFM Foundation (Canada) and Bible League Canada. These funds are used to establish adult literacy program, provide church planter training, children’s ministry programs, and distribute Bibles in many places around the world. Mission Thrift Store Red Deer, Alberta, also partners with local organizations and churches to support them in helping people in the Red Deer area. Mission Thrift Stores are operated primarily by dedicated volunteers.

Retail Supervisor - Mission Thrift Store Red Deer
Mission Thrift Store Red Deer is a busy, high quality, not for profit thrift store located in Red Deer, Alberta. We are a diverse, friendly, and fun community that thrives because of the work of over 160 volunteers and a few paid staff.
We are currently seeking a Retail Supervisor that will fit into our staff and bring to the table a variety of skills that will make us even better. No day is ever the same here, so you will thrive in an ever-changing environment, work well with volunteers of all ages and abilities, and be able to pivot your priorities on a moment’s notice.
The Retail Supervisor will report to and work with the Store Manager directly and will have tasks in the retail space of the store.This variety of tasks means that you are a well-rounded team player, who can run a computer/POS system (along with basic troubleshooting), lift boxes and heavy bags, build relationships with volunteers and customers, and bring ideas to the table that continue to make us the first-choice thrift store in Red Deer.
You can manage your time well with little supervision, you have the flexibility in your schedule should other staff need to rely on you in special circumstances, and you are passionate about the work we do in both our own community and in partnership with Bible League Canada.
This position requires and allows for flexibility in scheduling. We are closed on Sundays, but you will be scheduled on Saturdays, and likely some Thursdays up to 7:30 PM.

· Strong interpersonal skills. We greatly value our volunteers as a priority; we wouldn’t exist without them. You possess grace, good humour, and problem-solving skills with the ability to communicate with passionate volunteers. You invest in their lives and know them and their stories.
- You can solve problems with good judgment and make decisions independently.
- You work well with other staff and take direction easily. You contribute to regular staff meetings, share your ideas, and are trusted to open and close the store, count cash, and do other tasks that require a high level of trust and discretion (criminal record check required).
- You demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills for both internal and external communications (including social media). This role requires excellent administrative strengths and skills. You can schedule volunteers and staff.
- Volunteer experience is a strong asset.
- Thrift store experience is an asset.
- You have completed education in administration, business, communications, or other fields relevant to our industry or have appropriate level of experience.
