Teaching laboratory sessions and lectures in a variety of subjects in the Veterinary Technology onsite program to meet the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association curriculum standards and accreditation.
Responsibilities include:
- Preparing and delivering lecture and laboratory material as chosen by the chair and coordinators
- Continually developing course materials to maintain current and relevant curriculum
- Assessing student abilities (theory and practical)
- Mentoring students
- Supervising practicums/externships
- Evaluation of students which includes fostering critical thinking & problem-solving skills
- Open Communication with students, Onsite faculty, Open Learning faculty and program assistant
- Ensure that the most up to date medical information/technology is included
- That assigned courses align with the equivalent open learning courses
- Includes grading and posting of grades
- Ensuring students have completed the essential skills associated with any courses and have signed off the essential skill
Service Duties
- On call care for animals housed at TRU both on-campus (dogs, cats, rodents) and at the TRU farm (horses, llamas, sheep, goats, cattle and chickens)
- Actively participate in department faculty meetings and duties such as student applications and admission, coordinating, sitting on departmental and university committees, and/or other service duties within the university
- Promote the VTEC program and TRU graduates within the veterinary community and to the public
- Participate in continuing education pertinent to the position duties
