Job Summary:
The Junior BAS Designer position is an entry‑level role for recent technical graduates or individuals new to Building Automation, including those transitioning from construction or related trades. Working under the guidance of the Hiring Manager, the successful candidate will support the BAS team with system design tasks, engineering documentation, and BAS graphics development. The role may also include exposure to field activities such as commissioning, troubleshooting, and technician support. This position provides structured training and hands‑on experience to develop into a well‑rounded Building Automation System Designer.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support BAS engineering and service teams with entry-level design, documentation, and project tasks
- Assist with preparation of shop drawings, submittals, graphics, and sales proposals
- Contribute to BAS graphics development and system visualization
- Provide field support as required, including commissioning, troubleshooting, and technician assistance
- Participate in on-site and office activities to gain practical system experience
- Follow and promote Ainsworth Health & Safety policies and procedures
- Develop knowledge of HVAC systems, DDC controls, and BAS products
- Complete required technical training, including HVAC fundamentals and Schneider Electric BAS courses
Qualifications:
- Four-year college/university degree, two-year/three-year post-secondary engineering technology or applied science program, and/or equivalent trade/field experience and eligible for registration with the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) or the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT).
- Valid Driver’s license and the ability to be insured by Ainsworth; some travel may be requested from time to time. Ainsworth will reimburse travel expenses including mileage for driving.
- Pass security screening as required by Ainsworth’s clients.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Fluent in English – both written and oral. The ability to read and understand construction plans and specs and product documentation.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Visio, excel or
- Script or block programming software is an asset.
- Must be willingness to work in an office environment and to keep work area clean and tidy; light physical duties may be assigned
- Ability to perform routine tasks as assigned by the Engineering Manager.
The pay range is $24.00 to $31.00 per hour. Actual salaries will vary based on factors such as education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as alignment with market data. The base salary is just one component of Ainsworth’s total compensation package, which also includes additional rewards, benefits and health insurance, among others.
