About The Role:
Civida is searching for a 6-month, temporary Gender-based Violence Specialist. This role is responsible for supporting Civida tenants and GBV recipients with building connections to services and support and at times providing hands-on support to ensure connection to services, specifically as it relates to gender-based violence. The position is also responsible receiving, assessing, and processing gender-based violence (GBV) applications and transferring to other supplement programs based on availability and eligibility. A critical component of this role will be working with other services, support, and referral agencies for GBV. Salary: $60,683.41 - $73,703.82 per annum
Key Responsibilities:
- Review application files that are on a first come basis, evaluate, and validate the information to ensure it is current and it meets the program requirements.
- Provide applicants with general information on the program including how the program operates. Provide Civida team members with information and support where needed.
- Inform applicants of their responsibilities under the agreement.
- Complete the administration for new clients joining the program including completing the signing, benefit calculation and setting up of direct deposit.
- Establish and maintain relationships with Rent Assistance Benefit Program & Temporary Rent Assistance Benefit Program applicants to ensure appropriate referrals
- Coordinate with other Civida programs where appropriate.
- Review and sign benefit agreements with current clients in accordance with prescribed policies and procedures.
- Working knowledge of all Civida Programs to be able to support and refer to.
- Build and maintain relationships with tenants who are GBV survivors, identifying specific needs / resources to support and transition them accordingly.
- Explain and educate tenants on the various areas of the organization and provide contact information as required.
- Provide tenants with information and guidance on how to access and use various external networks of support and/or resources/agencies within the community relating to GBV.
- Complete and conduct home visits within specified timeframes to support and refer tenants that are experiencing gender-based violence. Maintain up to date casework notes, statistics, and other required reporting in compliance with relevant standards, policies and procedures.
- Effectively and compassionately support tenants utilizing strong observational and listening skills.
- Build relationships for effective partnership with agencies and clients receiving GBV benefit.
- Coordinate processes with shelters and other referral agencies on subsidy applications.
- Support and guide connection to community agencies that can provide support to victims of GBV where required.
- Knowledge of other GBV-related resources should further referrals be necessary.
- Support the supervisor with facilitating and leading group discussions with partnering agencies.
Qualifications:
- Completion diploma or degree with a focus on social serving disciplines related to Gender-based Violence (eg. social work, gender studies, etc.)
- Equivalencies may be considered; directly related experience or education considered based on one year of experience for one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience.
- Experience with understanding and applying a survivor-centered approach, including GBV Guiding Principles (safety, confidentiality, respect, non-discrimination) required.
- Understanding of the cycle of violence and impacts of family violence on children.
- Understanding of Indigenous experiences and impacts intergenerational trauma(s).
- This role will require access to a personal vehicle for work, at least 30% travel is expected in this role. Proof of insurance and a driver’s abstract will be requested and will be subject to review annually.
- Knowledge of applicable legislation, including, but not limited to, Protection Against Family Violence Act, Clare’s Law, the Rent Supplement Regulation, Social Housing Accommodation Regulation, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, Alberta Human Rights Act and the Residential Tenancies Act and regulations.
- A strong ability to problem solve, and have difficult conversations with a compassionate, trauma informed approach is essential.
- Reasonable knowledge of basic accounting principles – basic-to-moderate level – to be able to prepare standardized reports and explain them to tenants.
- Knowledge of other agencies or organizations to provide appropriate client referrals.
- Considerable knowledge of the purpose, organization, and methods of the department and of the policies and regulations governing the work program.
- Strong customer service background and ability to work with different clientele of different backgrounds and languages.
- Ability to make responsible decisions in accordance with prescribed policies.
- Ability to handle a high volume of work with tight deadlines.
- Ability to maintain effective working relations with the public and other employees.
- Excellent written/verbal communication, organization, and time management skills.
- Sound understanding of rental and leasing challenges and tenant relationships.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to maintain positive and productive relationships with all stakeholders.
- Ability to be tactful, diplomatic and use good judgment in resolving issues.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and ability to learn other programs
