MUSIC TEACHER
St. Clement's School is currently looking for a qualified Music Teacher to join our School on a full-time basis starting August 31, 2026, with an Orientation Day on August 27, 2026.
The Music Teacher (“Teacher”) is passionate about making a difference in the lives of our students. The Teacher is responsible for teaching Upper School (Grades 7-12) Music, including planning, preparing and implementing best practices in the area of teaching Music. The Music Teacher will teach the sequential skills, content, and attitudes necessary to develop a musically literate student body through exposure, education, and enrichment opportunities in Music. The Teacher will also participate actively in staff, department, and professional development meetings and other activities related to School life. The incumbent will also participate in and support LINCWell initiatives and implement best practices to meet the individual needs of our students.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan for and teach Music for Upper School students and additional courses which will be based on the qualifications and experience of the incumbent; vocal music experience an asset;
- Design and develop unit plans to deliver a curriculum that is challenging, creative, and that creates interdisciplinary connections;
- Support, supervise, and assess students and report on individual student achievement;
- Lead a band at varied levels of competency and instrumentals for school productions;
- Use technology to enhance learning in the classroom;
- Provide and manage a safe, positive learning environment for students to foster independent thinking skills, creative problem solving, and abstract reasoning;
- Support families with open, ongoing communication about student progress;
- Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines and grades;
- Participate in department meetings and Professional Development days;
- Fully participate and engage in the life of the School;
- Coach, organize and/or participate in co-curricular trips and activities, which may fall before and after school hours and on weekends and may include occasional supervision of overnight student trips, both national and international; and
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, AND ATTRIBUTES
- Bachelor of Education (or equivalent) with Ontario Teacher Qualifications (Intermediate/Senior);
- Qualified to teach Intermediate/Senior Instrumental Music;
- Proficient in at least one instrument, with a solid foundation in Music Theory;
- Experience and comfort in providing rich inquiry-based learning opportunities;
- Fluent in equity literacy with the ability to recognize, respond to, and redress conditions that are inequitable, and actively demonstrate commitment to anti-oppression education;
- Demonstrated ability to use and integrate technology to enhance learning;
- Excellent classroom management, organizational, and planning skills and experience in differentiating instruction;
- Commitment to girls' education and knowledge of girls' developmental, educational, and social-emotional needs;
- A record of encouraging, nurturing, and supporting students' love of learning;
- Demonstrated willingness and ability to work and plan in close collaboration with all constituents including colleagues, parents, and students;
- Commitment to co-curricular activities, coaching, and full participation in school life;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential, as is the ability to handle confidential material and situations with discretion and sensitivity; and
- Clear criminal record check is required as a condition of employment.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS OFFERED
- Salary is based on our Faculty Salary Grid and varies by qualifications and years of experience. Salaries below are based on full-time equivalency of (1.0);
- Salaries are based on qualifications and experience. The range for individuals with less than seven years of qualifying teaching experience is $60,000 – $105,000. The range for individuals with more than seven years of teaching experience is $85,000 – $134,000. (Progression within the band is based on set qualifications and experience.)
- These amounts are based on our current year grid, which may increase for the 2026 – 2027 academic year.
