About the Role
As a Purchaser, you’ll be responsible for keeping our inventory performing at its best – managing budgets, optimizing turns and margins, maintaining strong in-stock positions, and making smart purchasing decisions every day. Your work directly impacts what’s on our shelves, what we pay for it, and how profitably we sell it.
This is a data-driven role that requires strong analytical skills, sound commercial judgement, and the ability to build effective working relationships with vendors, leadership, and team members. You’ll create and interpret inventory analytics, develop action plans to improve performance, and work cross-functionally to drive results.
What You’ll Be Doing
Purchasing & Inventory Management
-
Managing inventory budget goals through effective, timely purchasing decisions
-
Ensuring procurement efficiency by regularly reviewing vendor pricing, rebates, discounts, and transport costs
-
Developing action plans to improve inventory performance – increasing sales, profit margin, and turns while reducing shrink and stock-outs
-
Identifying obsolete inventory and developing strategies to reduce its impact on the business
-
Promoting shrink awareness and identifying potential sources of inventory loss, implementing corrective measures as required
-
Creating and interpreting inventory analytics and applying insights to daily decision-making
Collaboration & Leadership
-
Working cross-functionally with the leadership team, employees, vendors, and customers to achieve inventory and margin goals
-
Fostering a solutions-focused team culture where members deliver excellent service to both internal and external customers
-
Acknowledging and responding to team member questions and concerns promptly and constructively
-
Ensuring the health and safety of all employees by consistently following safe work practices, obtaining proper training and certification, and using PPE whenever required
-
Reporting unsafe work practices or conditions immediately
What We’re Looking For
Here’s what will set you up for success in this role:
-
Analytical and commercially minded – you understand how purchasing decisions affect inventory turns, margins, and overall business performance
-
Highly organized and self-directed with superior time management skills and the ability to manage your own workload without close supervision
-
Strong negotiation and vendor relationship skills – you can build productive partnerships while holding suppliers accountable to pricing and service standards
-
A collaborative team player who communicates clearly and works effectively with leadership, vendors, and colleagues across departments
-
Proficiency with computers and programs including Outlook, Excel, and Eagle Software (or similar inventory/purchasing systems)
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
-
Mature, responsible, curious, and driven – you proactively identify problems and follow through on solutions
-
Previous experience in inventory purchasing is a strong asset
-
Knowledge of the building industry or building supply products is a strong asset
