CNC MACHINIST
Southwestern Manufacturing Inc. operates in a competitive global market producing wide ranging metal based assemblies and components across a variety of industry sectors including but not limited to Mining, Oil & Gas, Crane and Drag-line Components, Agricultural, Machine building, and Heavy Equipment Manufacturing.
Role Overview
The CNC Machinist will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines to produce precision metal components. This role involves interpreting technical drawings, programming or adjusting machine settings, performing quality checks, and ensuring efficient and safe production. CNC Machinists play a key role in maintaining product accuracy, minimizing downtime, and supporting overall manufacturing workflow.
Wage is negotiable depending on experience level. Additionally this role is located in Windsor Ontario.
Key Responsibilities
- Review BOMs and routers to identify areas for improvement in material and labor utilization.
- Document all continuous improvement efforts and communicate those results to management in regular meetings.
- Collaborate with Production and Engineering personnel to achieve optimal performance improvements.
- Work with Production personal to identify potential areas of improvement.
- Train helpers and operators to perform adjustments
- Setting up and operating Computer numerical control (CNC) machines
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, charts and tables
- Setting up and adjusting production machineries/tools
- Fitting and assembling components and machine parts to close tolerance
- Documenting and reporting deviations from specifications and tolerances
- Maintaining inspection records and complete inspection reports
- Verifying dimensions of parts machined using precise measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers)
- Verifying dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments
- Computing dimensions and tolerances and measure and lay out work pieces
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience in 2D machining
- Extensive knowledge of tooling and tooling operations
- Proficient specifically in Fanuc controls, Heidenein, and or Tosnuc.
- Must be proficient in manual G code programming
- Ability to operate Horizontal Boring Mills and Vertical Boring Mills efficiently
- Extreme attention to detail as our industry involves tight tolerances
- Strong understanding of blueprint reading/geometric tolerance interpretation
- Excellent knowledge of tooling
- Ability to read drawings, specifications & engineering information with minimum supervision
- Thorough knowledge and working experience with blueprints from start of job to completion
Education & Experience
- Secondary (high) school graduation certificate
- Minimum 5+ years experience in a machining environment working with Heidenein, Tosnuc or Fanuc
- Minimum 5+ years experience operating CNC horizontal/vertical milling machines, CNC turning machines; machining custom, high tolerance components
- AEC / DEP or Skilled Trade Certificate (required)
Working Conditions
- Shop environment with exposure to noise, sparks, grinding debris, and moving equipment.
- Regular lifting, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
- Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and have an attention for detail to ensure tight deadlines are met.
