Own how the drawings get made.
This is not a seat in a drafting pool. This is the person the work routes through. The person who sets the standard, trains others to meet it, and makes sure everything that leaves this office is something we are proud to put our name on.
About Guide Engineering
Guide Engineering Ltd. is a growing civil engineering consulting firm in Chilliwack, BC, specializing in municipal infrastructure, drainage design, site servicing, and land development. We work with municipalities, developers, and First Nations communities across the Fraser Valley and beyond.
We are a small team where every project matters and every person's contribution is visible. We invest deeply in our people and expect the same in return. If you want to build something that lasts — not just fill a seat — this is the role for you.
What you would own
- CAD standards across the firm — templates, layer standards, sheet sets, annotation styles, and the Civil 3D toolkit we are building in-house. You write the rules and you enforce them.
- Design production — municipal servicing drawings from concept to issued-for-construction, independently. Water, sanitary, storm, roads, grading.
- Training and mentorship — you raise the floor on what our junior drafters and EITs can produce. You teach Civil 3D the right way, not the workaround way.
- Drawing quality — every set that leaves this office goes through you. You are the last line of defence before it hits a client or a municipality.
- Field support — occasional site visits and construction observation as projects require.
What you will have already done
- Seven or more years in civil engineering drafting and design — in consulting, at a municipality, or both
- Carried a servicing design from concept to IFC under review rather than instruction — we will ask you to walk us through one
- Civil 3D every day, fluently — corridors, pipe networks, surfaces, profiles, sheet sets, data shortcuts. Not exposure to. Fluency.
- Built or enforced CAD standards in a previous role — templates, layer conventions, plotting standards
- Trained or mentored at least one junior drafter or designer — you know how to teach, not just do
- Worked to BC municipal servicing standards and dealt with the reviewers who enforce them
- AScT or CET registration with ASTTBC, eligibility for it, or an equivalent combination of credential and track record
- Driver's licence
Nice to have — genuinely not required
- Experience with drafting automation — Dynamo, AutoLISP, sheet set scripting, data links
- Rural servicing or onsite sewerage work under the BC Sewerage System Regulation
- Construction administration or field inspection experience
What we are not going to pretend
- This is an in-office role in Chilliwack. Not hybrid. Review, mentoring, and collaboration happen in the same room.
- A small firm has less bench than a large consultancy. Some weeks are busier than a big firm would allow.
- If you want to specialize narrowly, this is the wrong job. You will touch everything.
- We invest seriously in the people who join us. We need the same commitment in return.
What we offer
- $60,000 – $100,000 based on experience
- Health and dental after probation (50% employer contribution)
- ASTTBC dues and PD allowance
- In-office in Chilliwack — not hybrid
