Straight Path Construction is a Calgary-based roofing and exterior construction company specializing in roofing, siding, cladding, gutters, soffit, fascia, and related building envelope work. We work on residential, commercial, multi-family, church, and occupied-property projects. Our focus is simple: clean execution, clear communication, safe job sites, and high-quality workmanship. As we grow our commercial and low-slope roofing division, we are looking for strong field leaders who understand flat roofing and can help us maintain a higher standard on site.
Position Overview
The Flat Roofing Foreman will be responsible for leading flat roofing crews, managing daily site activity, coordinating labour and materials, maintaining safety standards, confirming installation quality, and communicating clearly with the office, clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and other trades. You will be expected to understand the full roofing process from tear-off and preparation to installation, detailing, quality checks, and closeout. This role is best suited for someone who has worked as a flat roofing foreman, lead hand, or crew lead, or is a highly experienced flat roofer, and is ready to take ownership of projects from start to finish.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead flat roofing crews on commercial, institutional, multi-family, and low-slope roofing projects.
- Manage daily site setup, safety, production, cleanup, and closeout.
- Read and understand scopes of work, drawings, roof plans, details, specifications, work orders, and project notes.
- Confirm materials, tools, equipment, safety requirements, and site access before work begins.
- Supervise tear-off, preparation, insulation installation, cover board installation, membrane installation, flashing, penetrations, drains, curbs, tie-ins, and final detailing.
- Ensure installations follow company standards, project specifications, manufacturer requirements, and safe work practices.
- Identify wet insulation, damaged deck, poor slope, drainage issues, failed seams, unsafe conditions, or hidden damage before proceeding.
- Communicate change-order items and site issues clearly before extra work is completed.
- Take clear jobsite photos before, during, and after work.
- Provide daily updates to the office on progress, labour needs, material needs, safety concerns, and schedule.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional job site.
- Coordinate with property managers, general contractors, building owners, consultants, inspectors, suppliers, and other trades when required.
- Ensure crews follow fall protection, hot work, torch safety, fire watch, and site-specific safety requirements.
- Complete quality checks before leaving the site.
- Help train and develop crew members.
- Protect finished work, existing building components, landscaping, walls, doors, windows, parking areas, and surrounding property.
- Ensure deficiencies are corrected quickly and professionally.
Required Experience:
The ideal candidate should have:
- Minimum 5 years of roofing experience.
- Strong flat roofing experience.
- Previous foreman, lead hand, or crew leadership experience.
- Experience with SBS, torch-on, EPDM, TPO, coatings, or other low-slope roofing systems.
- Knowledge of insulation, tapered insulation, vapour barriers, cover boards, membranes, adhesives, fasteners, drains, scuppers, curbs, parapets, wall flashings, and roof penetrations.
- Ability to understand roof details and identify waterproofing risks.
- Ability to manage a crew and keep production moving.
- Strong understanding of jobsite safety, fall protection, and hot work safety.
- Ability to communicate professionally with office staff, clients, property managers, consultants, and other trades.
- Ability to work outdoors in changing weather conditions.
- Valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation.
- Own basic roofing tools preferred.
- Red Seal Journeyman Roofer preferred
The main requirement is flat roofing Experience.
Safety Experience
The ideal candidate understands the importance of safety on commercial and occupied-property projects.
Experience with the following is considered an asset:
- Fall protection;
- WHMIS;
- CSTS;
- First aid;
- Torch safety;
- Hot work procedures;
- Fire watch;
- Ladder and scaffold safety;
- Lift operation;
- Site hazard assessments;
- Daily safety documentation.

Pay: $30.00-$55.00 per hour
