Equipment Operator - Matcon Group of Companies
Matcon Group of Companies, one of the Lower Mainland's leading and most respected construction firms, is seeking experienced Excavator Operators to join our expanding Excavation & Shoring division.

Key Responsibilities:
- Adhere to all safety protocols while performing tasks
- Precisely cut lines and grades for the installation of sewer, water, and conduit mainlines and services
- Perform backfilling and hoe packing operations
- Prepare curbs and sidewalks for installation
- Conduct bulk excavation and truck loading operations
- Collaborate closely with the Foreman to ensure smooth project execution
- Maintain track cleanliness daily
- Demonstrated expertise in operating a variety of heavy equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, front-end loaders, telehandlers, and skid steers
- Complete routine maintenance and daily pre-use inspections for equipment using our digital safety software
Mastered Skills and Experience:
- Safe loading of trucks, both from stockpiles and in-situ material
- Expertise in maintaining safe excavation slopes and other site safety measures
- Ability to organize and maintain a clean, efficient work site
- Proficiency in handling different soil types under both wet and dry weather conditions
- Strong understanding of grading techniques and project specifications
- Skilled in managing site access and egress for trucks
- Experience in bulk excavations, mainline trenching, backfilling, hoe packing, and hoe ramming
- Keen ability to identify and address safety concerns on-site
Qualifications:
- Comprehensive knowledge of industry-standard safety procedures, particularly around trenching and heavy equipment operations
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to job sites
- Ability to thrive in a production-driven environment while maintaining professionalism, clear communication, and a positive attitude
- Exceptional efficiency and accuracy with attention to detail
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to take initiative and independently carry out tasks
- A minimum of 3 years of experience operating excavators or backhoes in sewer and water installations is required
- Comfort and adaptability in challenging work conditions, including extreme weather, tight schedules, and congested workspaces
