Job Summary
Reporting directly to the Project Manager of Creative Industries Ltd. ‘CILTD’, the Project Estimator is responsible for gathering any and all data required in preparing lump sum, unit rate and cost plus detailed estimates.
The incumbent will conduct all activities in a manner that supports the mission, vision and values of CILTD, as well as adherence to all established Policies and Procedures.
This permanent full-time hourly position is based on forty (40) hours weekly.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Estimates construction materials, technical specifications, employee hours, cost and any other job requirements for the project;
- Reviews contracts and interprets cost impacts for the company;
- Tracks and records costs for continuous improvement;
- Consults with all levels of Operations on a regular basis from conceptual, preliminary and final stages to ensure labour, equipment and material reflect current pricing, construction costs, and timelines;
- Ensures construction is consistent with the work projected estimate;
- Works within estimating team in the development of proposals and estimates;
- Conducts solicitation of materials, subcontractors, sub-trades, and consultants;
- Reviews tender requirements, specifications, and design drawings to determine scope of work;
- Prepares detailed estimates and proposals;
- Reviews engineered designs to optimize construction process, improve efficiencies, and reduce costs;
- Maintains an intimate understanding of the market conditions;
- Ensures all bids are submitted prior to deadlines and satisfy all requirements set forth;
- Maintain a professional attitude with customers, co-workers, and vendors; and,
- Other relatable duties as required.
Requirements
- Grade twelve (12) Diploma or General Educational Diploma ‘GED’ equivalency is required;
- Post secondary certificate or in estimating, along with three (3) years of estimating experience is required; or,
- A combination of post secondary education in estimating, along with five (5) years of experience may be considered;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook) and Microsoft Projects are definite assets;
- Ability to read and understand construction drawings and documents;
- Proven analytical, planning, and organizing skills;
- Results and people oriented, but have sound judgment and the ability to balance other business considerations;
- High energy level, ability to multitask, establish priorities, work independently or in a team environment;
- Ability to foster a cooperative work environment by minimizing and resolving conflicts are vital;
- Must be decisive and work well under pressure particularly when faced with an unexpected occurrence or delay;
- Must have excellent communication skills in written and spoken English; and,
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
