Role Overview
The Tool Room Foreman will lead and manage all tool room operations. This role is responsible for ensuring dies are maintained, repaired, documented, and production ready. The successful candidate will bring structure, accountability, and technical expertise to the tool room while mentoring the team and working closely with production, quality, and maintenance.
Reporting Structure
Reports to: Plant Supervisor
Direct Reports: Tool Room Staff, Machinists, Apprentices, Tool Room Support Staff
Collaborates with: Production Supervisors, Maintenance, Quality, Engineering
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily tool room operations, prioritize work, and assign tasks.
- Own the complete die maintenance process from inspection through release to production.
- Troubleshoot die related production issues affecting quality, cycle time, or downtime.
- Implement preventive maintenance schedules and ensure compliance.
- Maintain accurate die history, repair documentation, and critical tooling records.
- Oversee fabrication, machining, CNC, grinding, polishing, fitting, and assembly as required.
- Manage tooling inventory, spare components, and vendor coordination.
- Ensure dies are staged and verified prior to production changeovers.
- Train and mentor apprentices and junior staff with a structured development plan.
- Maintain safe work practices and uphold safety standards in the tool room and production areas.

- Improved die readiness and fewer start-up issues.
- High compliance with preventive maintenance schedules.
- Reduction in repeat die failures.
- Documented and organized tooling systems.
- Demonstrated development of tool room personnel.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of tool and die experience in die casting or metal manufacturing.
- Minimum 2 years in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
- Certified Tool and Die Maker, Machinist, or equivalent trade qualification preferred.
- Strong understanding of Aluminum and Zinc die casting processes.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and CAD outputs.
- Experience with machining, CNC, and manual tooling equipment.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
- Experience with preventive maintenance systems and structured workflow management preferred.
