Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and hardworking Dairy Farmer Hand to join our farm. In this vital role, you will assist with daily dairy farm operations, ensuring the health and productivity of our dairy cattle while maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient environment. Your energetic approach and attention to detail will contribute directly to the success of our farm. We are looking for someone who is self motivated, can work well with others along with being reliable. Experience isn’t a must but it is an asset. We are willing to train the person best for the job.
Responsibilities
- Assist with feeding, watering, and caring for dairy cattle to promote optimal health and milk production
- Milking in a 70 stall parlour, feeding caves, scraping bedding by hand, with tractor and skid steer and general farm maintenance
- Milking cows according to established farm schedules
- Perform routine farm maintenance including cleaning stalls, milking areas, and equipment to ensure a hygienic environment
- Operate farm machinery such as tractors, feed mixers, and milking equipment safely and effectively
- Handle heavy lifting tasks involved in moving feed, supplies, or livestock equipment throughout the farm
- Preparing cows for milking, including saintizing and cleaning udders
- Monitor animal health and behavior, reporting any signs of illness or distress to senior staff promptly
- Cleaning and sanitizing the milking parlour and equipment after each milking
- Maintain cleanliness of barns, milking parlors, and surrounding areas to meet safety standards
- Following all farm policies; bio security, health and safety protocols
Qualifications
- Must be able to work: 5:30-9:30am and 4-7:30 pm with some weekend availability
- Mechanical knowledge is preferred for operating and troubleshooting farm machinery efficiently
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and consistently throughout the workday
- Experience or familiarity with farm machinery such as tractors, feeders, or milking systems is advantageous
- Physical stamina and strength to handle demanding tasks in an outdoor farm environment
- Exposure to livestock, equipment, and varying weather conditions
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to animal welfare standards
- Prior experience working on a dairy or livestock farm is a plus but not required; training will be provided for motivated candidates
