Overland Container Transportation Services (OCTS) has proudly served Western Canada since 1989. We provide container transportation, drayage, storage, repair, warehousing, and transloading services throughout Alberta and Western Canada.
We are currently looking for a reliable and safety-focused Shunt Truck Driver to join our terminal operations team in Acheson.
The Opportunity
The Shunt Truck Driver is responsible for safely and efficiently moving containers, chassis, trailers, and other equipment throughout the terminal yard.
This position plays an important role in keeping our depot and transload operations organized and running efficiently. The successful candidate will work closely with Coordinators, Leadhands, Operators, Drivers, and terminal leadership.
Previous experience driving Class 1 commercial vehicles is preferred; however, a current Class 1 Driver’s Licence is not required for this position. Applicants with shunt truck, yard truck, commercial driving, or heavy-equipment experience are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate shunt trucks and other yard equipment
- Move, position, and stage containers, chassis, trailers, and equipment throughout the terminal
- Ensure trailers and containers are positioned safely and accurately
- Support depot and transload operations with timely equipment movements
- Help maintain safe traffic flow and an organized terminal yard
- Complete pre-trip and post-trip equipment inspections
- Report equipment defects, hazards, incidents, and unsafe conditions promptly
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and operational standards
- Communicate yard concerns, equipment issues, and operational delays to the appropriate team members
- Maintain clean and organized equipment and work areas
- Assist with container inventory and yard organization when required
- Adapt to changing operational priorities and workload requirements
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Experience
- Previous experience operating a shunt truck, yard truck, commercial vehicle, heavy equipment, or similar machinery
- Previous Class 1 commercial driving experience is preferred
- A valid Class 1 Driver’s Licence is considered an asset but is not required
- Transportation, logistics, terminal, warehouse, transload, or industrial experience is an asset
- Strong commitment to workplace safety
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work with minimal supervision
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced operational environment
- Mechanical aptitude is considered an asset
- Valid driver’s licence and an acceptable driver’s abstract
Work Requirements
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to safely climb into and exit equipment repeatedly throughout the shift
- Ability to complete regular equipment inspections
- Availability to support occasional overtime or shift adjustments based on operational requirements
- Willingness to wear all required personal protective equipment
