Design Electrical is expanding its specialized residential services division. We are seeking a skilled, dual-certified Residential Refrigeration/Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic (313D) and Licensed G2 Gas Fitter to join our team in Ontario.
In this role, you will be the go-to technical expert bridging the gap between sophisticated electrical layouts, advanced climate control installations, and gas-fired equipment. You will handle the installation, diagnostics, maintenance, and structural layout of high-efficiency residential heat pumps, central air conditioning systems, furnaces, and custom hydronic systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Installation & Retrofits: Install, commission, and alter residential split systems, cold-climate air-source heat pumps, ductless mini-splits, gas furnaces, and tankless water heaters according to design blueprints.
- Electrical Integration: Read electrical schematics and safely interface HVAC/R low-voltage control wiring with domestic high-voltage electrical distribution panels.
- Gas Fitting & Safety: Layout, install, test, and service gas piping, regulators, and venting systems. Ensure absolute adherence to the TSSA (Technical Standards and Safety Authority) and the Natural Gas and Propane Installation Code (CSA B149.1).
- System Diagnostics: Troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration circuit failures. Use modern diagnostic equipment to test airflow, evaluate static pressure, check refrigerant charges, and perform combustion analysis.
- Quality Control & Compliance: Ensure all installations comply with the Ontario Building Code (OBC), local utility rules, and ESA (Electrical Safety Authority) standards.
Required Qualifications & CertificatesMandatory Ontario Credentials: You must hold active, valid licensing to practice legally in Ontario.
- 313D License: Residential Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic Journeyperson status (Certificate of Qualification) registered with Skilled Trades Ontario.
- G2 Gas Fitter License: Valid TSSA Gas Fitter 2 certification.
- ODP/ODP2 Card: Valid Ozone Depletion Prevention card for handling refrigerants.
- Electrical Aptitude: Strong background interfacing with residential electrical circuits (working knowledge of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code is a massive asset).
- Driver's License: Clean Ontario Class "G" Driver’s License with a valid abstract.
- Safety Certifications: Working at Heights, WHMIS, and First Aid/CPR (or willingness to complete immediately upon hire).
Core Skills & Competencies
- Deep knowledge of modern variable-capacity inverter heat pumps and hybrid dual-fuel systems.
- Proficiency in reading mechanical blueprints, structural duct layouts, and complex electrical line diagrams.
- Strong customer-facing communication skills; ability to explain complex technical issues or electrical layouts clearly to homeowners.
- A meticulous approach to craftsmanship — building clean, safe, and organized mechanical systems.
