Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer – Nuclear

About the Opportunity
We are seeking experienced Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineers to support major nuclear generation, life extension, and refurbishment programs across Ontario. This role is ideal for engineers with hands-on experience in CANDU nuclear facilities, including station modifications, design engineering, system upgrades, and plant support activities.
Successful candidates will possess strong technical expertise in instrumentation systems, control logic, PLCs, DCS platforms, field instrumentation, and nuclear engineering change processes within highly regulated environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute I&C engineering activities supporting nuclear plant operations, refurbishment, and modification projects.
- Develop, review, and approve engineering deliverables including:
- Design change packages
- Engineering calculations
- Instrument loop diagrams
- Logic diagrams and schematics
- Control narratives
- System design descriptions
- Technical reports and specifications
- Support the full Engineering Change Control (ECC) process, including design, implementation, commissioning, and closeout activities.
- Perform design assessments, technical evaluations, and equipment selection for instrumentation and control system upgrades.
- Provide expertise in:
- Distributed Control Systems (DCS)
- Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)
- Process instrumentation
- Monitoring and control systems
- Safety-related I&C systems
- Support troubleshooting, root cause investigations, corrective action development, and system reliability improvements.
- Prepare and review temporary modifications, Temporary Configuration Changes (TCCs), and field change documentation.
- Interface with operations, maintenance, commissioning, procurement, and project teams to ensure successful project execution.
- Ensure compliance with applicable nuclear codes, standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in design reviews, constructability reviews, walkdowns, and field verification activities.
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers, designers, and technical staff.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in:
- Electrical Engineering
- Instrumentation Engineering
- Control Systems Engineering
- Mechatronics Engineering
- Or a related discipline
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario, in good standing.
- Minimum 4+ years of Instrumentation & Controls engineering experience.
- Experience working in a regulated industrial environment such as:
- Nuclear Power Generation
- Power Generation
- Oil & Gas
- Heavy Industrial Facilities
- Process Manufacturing
Nuclear Experience Requirements
Candidates should possess experience supporting one or more of the following:
- CANDU nuclear generating stations
- Nuclear refurbishment or life extension projects
- Engineering Change Control (ECC) programs
- Plant modifications and system upgrades
- Design change packages
- Commissioning and startup support
- Temporary Configuration Changes (TCCs)
- Nuclear maintenance and outage support
Technical Skills & Knowledge
- Instrumentation design and specification

Preferred Experience
- Bruce Power or OPG site experience
- Existing or previously held Nuclear Security Clearance
- Field engineering and commissioning experience
- Outage execution support
- Safety-related system design experience
- Experience working within a Nuclear Quality Assurance Program
