Head of Engineering

Tekdata Metal Solutions is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Head of Engineering to lead our engineering department. This position is responsible for managing daily engineering operations, coordinating technical resources, ensuring successful project execution, and supporting the continued growth of our stainless steel fabrication business.
The successful candidate will possess strong leadership abilities, extensive sheet metal manufacturing knowledge, and a deep understanding of engineering principles related to stainless steel fabrication.
Technical Skills & Manufacturing Expertise
Required Technical Expertise
- Extensive experience in sheet metal fabrication and manufacturing processes
- Strong background in stainless steel fabrication, including material characteristics, forming requirements, welding considerations, and finishing processes
- Advanced proficiency with Autodesk Inventor
- Strong knowledge of 3D modeling, assemblies, sheet metal design, and manufacturing drawings
- Ability to interpret, create, review, and approve fabrication drawings and manufacturing documentation
- Thorough understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Strong understanding of manufacturing tolerances, fit-up requirements, and fabrication best practices
- Ability to optimize designs for manufacturability, quality, and production efficiency
Manufacturing Knowledge
Extensive knowledge of:
- Laser cutting processes
- Sheet metal forming
- Welding and fabrication methods
- Assembly processes
- Material selection and fabrication techniques
- Stainless steel manufacturing environments
Measurement & Quality Control
Proficient with precision measuring instruments including:
- Vernier and digital calipers
- Micrometers
- Height gauges
- Tape measures
- Angle measurement devices
Leadership & Strategy
- Manage daily engineering department activities in alignment with company objectives and priorities established by the President.
- Provide leadership, direction, and accountability to the engineering team.
- Develop department processes, workflows, and project priorities.
- Collaborate closely with the President on strategic decisions, project validation, and resource allocation.
- Ensure complete transparency regarding project status, risks, bottlenecks, and resource requirements.
- Maintain strong communication between engineering, production, purchasing, and management teams.
Project Management
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee engineering projects from concept through manufacturing.
- Establish project schedules, technical deliverables, and department priorities.
- Monitor project progress, design costs, and production deadlines.
- Identify technical risks and proactively implement solutions.
- Ensure engineering documentation is completed accurately and delivered on schedule.
- Continuously improve project execution, workflow efficiency, and resource utilization.
- Eliminate bottlenecks and streamline engineering processes.
Team Leadership
- Assign responsibilities and balance workloads across engineering personnel.
- Establish clear expectations, responsibilities, and accountability.
- Mentor and support team members in their professional development.
- Foster a collaborative environment between engineering, production, purchasing, and management.
- Promote ownership, initiative, and continuous improvement within the team.
Technical Oversight
- Review and approve engineering drawings, manufacturing documentation, and technical solutions prior to production release.
- Validate manufacturability, accuracy, and compliance with customer requirements.
- Support complex technical problem-solving and critical projects.
- Ensure all designs meet quality, safety, and production standards.
- Maintain high engineering standards throughout all projects.
