Canada U-Tutoring Learning Institute is a non-profit educational organization committed to providing accessible, inclusive, and high-quality academic support for students.
We are currently seeking experienced English Language Teachers to join our teaching team for the upcoming academic term.
The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of the Ontario English curriculum and experience teaching students in elementary and/or secondary school settings. Familiarity with commonly used Ontario teaching resources, including Nelson Language Arts, Nelson Language and Writing, and other curriculum-aligned materials, is strongly preferred.
Our programs include both small-group classes and one-on-one instruction. Teachers are expected to deliver structured, engaging lessons, adapt instruction based on student needs, and work collaboratively with our academic team to support consistent student progress.
Experience & Qualifications
Previous teaching or tutoring experience is required.
We are looking for candidates who have:
* A minimum of 3 years of English teaching or tutoring experience
* Strong knowledge of the Ontario English curriculum
* Experience teaching reading comprehension, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and essay writing
* Excellent spoken and written English
* Experience working with children and/or adolescents
* Strong classroom management and student engagement skills
* Ability to identify students’ strengths, weaknesses, and learning gaps
* Ability to adapt instruction to different academic levels and learning styles
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to provide clear, constructive, and professional feedback
* Strong organizational and time-management skills
* Reliability, professionalism, and a collaborative attitude
Experience with OSSD English instruction, academic writing, SSAT/SAT preparation, or senior-level English is considered an asset.
Responsibilities
* Deliver structured and engaging English lessons in small-group and one-on-one settings
* Follow curriculum-aligned teaching plans and resources provided for designated group programs
* Adapt lesson pacing, explanations, examples, and activities based on student understanding and classroom performance
* Deliver individualized instruction based on each student’s academic level, learning goals, and areas for improvement
* Teach reading comprehension, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and academic writing skills
* Review and mark student homework and provide meaningful, constructive feedback
* Prepare supplementary exercises, worksheets, quizzes, or assessments when appropriate
* Monitor student progress and identify areas requiring additional support
* Provide regular feedback on student learning and classroom performance
* Communicate professionally with parents and the academic team when required
* Provide constructive feedback on teaching materials, lesson pacing, and classroom effectiveness
* Maintain a positive, structured, and supportive classroom environment
* Follow organizational teaching expectations, academic standards, and classroom procedures
* Participate in training, meetings, and academic discussions when required
* Collaborate with the academic team to support continuous improvement in teaching quality and student outcomes
Preferred Candidate
We are looking for teachers who are not only knowledgeable in English, but also able to explain concepts clearly and build strong relationships with students.
Strong candidates are able to balance structure with flexibility, maintain appropriate classroom expectations, and recognize when a student requires additional explanation, practice, or a different instructional approach.
We value teachers who take ownership of student progress, communicate proactively, and contribute professionally to the development of our academic programs.
Position Details
Employment Type: Part-time
Teaching Format: In-person and/or online, depending on class assignment
Student Levels: Elementary to secondary school students
Class Types: Small-group classes and one-on-one instruction
Schedule: Weekday evenings and weekends, based on program needs and teacher availability
Location: U-Tutoring Learning Institute, Markham, Ontario
Additional teaching hours may become available based on teacher performance, student enrolment, and program needs.
