Galaxy Processing is the largest distribution center of The Star Group – the name really speaks for itself! This 200,000 sq. ft. facility, with over 30,000 sq. ft. of cooler space, has state-of-the-art sorting lines, multiple packing machines, and superior conditioning rooms.

Focus
We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Supervisor to provide hands-on leadership and technical expertise, assisting at our Sliced and Galaxy facilities in NE Calgary. This role will oversee a small maintenance team while actively participating in equipment troubleshooting, repairs, preventative maintenance, and general facility maintenance.
The successful candidate will be a skilled tradesperson who can lead by example, support daily maintenance priorities, troubleshoot equipment issues, and ensure production equipment remains safe, reliable, and operational.
This is a hands-on leadership position requiring strong mechanical skills, problem-solving ability, and the ability to work collaboratively with Operations, Food Safety, Quality, and Warehouse teams.
Key Accountabilities
- Provide day-to-day direction, guidance, and support to maintenance team members, promoting a positive team environment focused on safety, teamwork, and accountability
- Assign daily maintenance tasks and priorities, ensuring activities are completed safely, efficiently, and with minimal disruption to operations
- Diagnose mechanical issues and perform hands-on troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance of production, packaging, warehouse, and facility equipment
- Maintain and repair conveyors, motors, pumps, packaging equipment, pneumatic systems, hydraulic systems, and other production equipment
- Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns and production maintenance needs
- Develop procedures for scheduling and tracking facility maintenance
- Perform maintenance inspections
- Comply with and enforce Occupational Health and Safety standards and practices
- Maintain an inventory of all equipment, tools, parts, manuals and warranties
- Coordinate with external licensed tradespeople as necessary
- Safely use a variety of hand and power tools and material handling equipment
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area
- Interact professionally and communicate effectively with all internal and external stakeholders
- Maintain accurate preventative maintenance tasks and corrective action / downtime reports
- Oversee and complete installation, removal, commissioning, decommissioning, and training on new equipment
- Communicate and document equipment issues, repair status, and maintenance priorities with Operations and other departments
Key Attributes and Skills
- Excellent time management skills and able to work under pressure
- Hands-on mechanical ability and problem-solving skills
- Ability to balance hands-on maintenance work with team leadership responsibilities
- Ability to prioritize tasks and respond effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Confident working with limited direct supervision
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal English language)
- Organization and attention to detail
- Possess a valid driver’s license
Education and Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ progressive experience in a similar maintenance role, preferably in food processing, manufacturing, packaging, or warehouse operations
- Completion of a recognized industrial trade certification such as Millwright (preferred), Industrial Mechanic, Electrical Journeyman, or other relevant trades
- Previous experience supervising, leading, mentoring, or providing direction to team members
- Current/valid Forklift Operator and First Aid Certificate considered assets
Working Conditions
- Hours may be irregular and in excess of 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week
- Work outside ordinary office hours, including weekends and holidays, is often required
- Working with machinery such as loaders, forklifts, and power tools
- Working in a refrigerated environment <4 C
- Standard working hours begin at 5:00 a.m.; flexibility may be required based on operational needs
Physical Requirements
- Repetitive and strenuous work
- Ability to stand, bend and walk for extended periods of time
- Ability to safely lift heavy objects (over 50lb)
