The Opportunity
Nicholson has an immediate opening for full-time Shipping and Receiving Laborer at our manufacturing plant in Sidney, British Columbia. The position offers compensation of $28.72/hour plus extended health benefits and pension through the union. Nicholson provides safety training, on the job training and opportunities for career growth.
Requirements
- High school diploma or international equivalent.
- Ability to lift parts weighing 50 lbs. and stand for the duration of the shift.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and available for shift work as needed.
- Forklift operation certification and basic carpentry skills is considered an asset.
- Previous experience in a warehouse or logistics environment is considered an asset.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
- Read, understand, and comply with all Company policies and procedures, including the Employee Handbook, Occupational Health and Safety requirements, and provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Safely operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and power tools.
- Unloading shipments, verifying contents against orders, inspecting for damage, and labeling stock.
- Counting, weighing, sorting, and stocking items; using ERP systems
- Picking, packing, and preparing orders for shipment, ensuring accuracy and proper handling.
- Moving products by hand or using equipment (pallet jacks, forklifts).
- Keeping the workspace, shelves, and equipment clean and organized.
- Following all safety guidelines, performing pre-shift equipment checks, and using PPE.
- Working with a team of staff in a Fast-paced environment.

Attention to detail
- Accurately verifies part numbers, quantities, serial numbers, and condition of materials
- Follows packing and labeling requirements exactly. No assumptions or shortcuts
- Identifies and reports discrepancies, damage, or missing information immediately

- Works closely with production, machining, and logistics
- Communicates clearly with drivers, supervisors, and coworkers
Sense of ownership
- Treats shipped product as finished customer equipment, not just boxes
- Keeps shipping areas organized and safe without being asked
Ability to follow standard work
- Can follow written and verbal instructions
- Comfortable with checklists and repeatable processes
