The Adams Lake Indian Band is a proud Secwépemc community committed to protecting our lands, waters, resources, culture, and future generations. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director of Natural Resources to lead the strategic management, stewardship, and sustainable development of natural resources within our traditional territory. The Director of Natural Resources to work under the direction of the Adams Lake Band’s Chief Executive Officer as well as Chief and Council. The Director is responsible for overseeing the Band’s natural resource portfolio, including forestry, lands, water, fisheries, environmental stewardship, wildlife, consultation, and economic development opportunities tied to resource management. This leadership role will ensure that all natural resource initiatives align with the Band’s rights, title, laws, values, and long-term vision.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Adams Lake Indian Band policies and procedures
Leadership & Strategy

Develop and implement a comprehensive Natural Resources strategic plan in partnership with leadership and the community.

Provide expert advice to Chief and Council on natural resource issues, referrals, and opportunities.

Lead departmental planning, budgeting, staffing, and performance management.

Build internal capacity and support community engagement on resource matters.
Stewardship & Resource Management
-
Oversee forestry, fisheries, wildlife, water, environmental monitoring, and land use initiatives.

Ensure protection of culturally significant sites and traditional land use values.
-
Advance sustainable practices and climate resilience planning.
-
Monitor cumulative impacts from industrial development within territory.
Consultation & Government Relations
-
In partnership with the Title and Right Director, support in consultation and accommodation processes with federal, provincial, and municipal governments.

Review development referrals and coordinate technical responses.

Support in negotiating impact benefit agreements, partnerships, and resource-related agreements.

Represent the Band at meetings, tables, and industry engagements.
Economic Development

Identify and advance with the ALIB team revenue-generating opportunities in forestry, carbon credits, aggregates, tourism, energy, and land development.

Support joint ventures and Indigenous-led business opportunities tied to natural resources.
Administration & Compliance
-
Prepare briefing notes, reports, recommendations, policies, presentations and Band Council Resolutions.

Manage contracts, consultants, grant applications, and regulatory compliance.

Ensure proper records management and data stewardship.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS
Required
- Degree in Natural Resource Management, Forestry, Environmental Science, Planning, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years senior leadership experience in natural resources, government, or Indigenous organizations.
- Strong knowledge of BC and Canadian regulatory frameworks.
- Experience in consultation, negotiations, and stakeholder relations.
- Strong budgeting, project management, and staff leadership skills.
Preferred
- Knowledge of Secwépemc culture, title, rights, and governance.
- Registered Professional Forester (RPF), RPBio, P.Ag, or similar designation.
- Experience working with First Nations governments.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The individual will oversee the entire Natural Resources department including but not limited to; Cumulative Effects, Field Operations, Forester(s), Fisheries and Wildlife Manager as well as NR Project Accountant.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Full time permanent position
Salary Range: $90,000 to $130,000 to be determined based on education and experience.
Location: 6453 Hillcrest Rd, Chase BC this is an on-site position.
Hours per week: 75 hours bi-weekly (max 37.5 hrs./week), with flexibility in hours/days of work.
