Join the vibrant and forward-thinking community at the University of Regina, where innovation meets education. We are seeking a skilled and motivated Software Administrator to join our Information Services team, dedicated to advancing campus-wide communication networks.
Reporting to the Manager of File & Deployment Services, this position administers a wide portfolio of academic software including Microsoft 365 application used by employees and students. This includes software license renewals and contract tracking, assigning access to software, keeping abreast of application updates to understand applicability to the University, advising software owners of applicable changes, providing tier 2 support for Microsoft 365 and other software centrally managed by Information Services, and acting as a liaison between software owners, IS and vendors to resolve software problems.
What You’ll do:
- Software Champion: Be the key contact and resource for Microsoft 365 tenant licensing and configuration, as well as other Academic and Research software. Assist with software license renewals and purchases, and monitor usage of licensed software.
- Software Administration: Be the leader in managing M365 and administration of a range of other software applications, assisting with license updates, advising users on capabilities and pricing, as well as managing implementation for upgrades. Includes accessing vendor sites, downloading license files and installers, coordinating server license updates and managing distribution of license keys. Create and manage scripts for automating repeat tasks.
- Support and Troubleshoot: Act as liaison for software license issues, and as a support resource for technical software issues, which involves coordination and testing with IT Support, Desktop Support, Training and/or the Server team.
- Assessment and Auditing: Review and test software updates and improvements. Conduct thorough vulnerability assessments, audits, and compliance initiatives. Determine and advise impacts of software updates.
- Documentation and Innovation: Develop and document cutting-edge software administration practices, contributing to a continuously evolving software ecosystem.

Position Requirements
What You’ll Bring to the Position:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, or related field; and
- 3 years relevant experience.
- An equivalent combination of knowledge and experience may be considered.
Skills That Will Ensure Your Success in this Role:
- Knowledge of computer operating systems, and ability to debug issues on Windows, MacOS and Linux.
- Understanding of computer security principals such as encryption, hashing, role-based access control and authentication principals
- Programming skills in languages like PERL, Python, or PowerShell to code scripts for repeating access control tasks
- Good knowledge of key M365 applications including Office productivity tools, Teams, and Sharepoint.
- Practical knowledge of computer networking and firewalls
- Strong technical skills with ability to test and troubleshoot license issues
- Ability to work independently and coordinate with other teams
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Attention to detail to ensure licenses are managed and renewals are completed prior to expiry
Physical Demands Pay Grade APT 4 Salary Range $62,909 - $84,893 Annually Status Permanent Work Hours
As per APT collective agreement, Monday to Friday, 7.25 hours/day.
