As a member of the Quality Assurance team, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience with Pressure Equipment engineering, fitness-for-service assessments, regulations, codes and standards while interfacing with a variety of teams company-wide. Corporate QA supports North American Operations (Horizon, Albian, Thermal, and Conventional).
You will report to a Lead Engineer-QA ABSA and work on fitness-for-service assessments, pressure equipment engineering alterations, and provide proper guidance, recommendations, and resolutions on the day-to-day challenges to Canadian Natural teams to ensure compliance with various pressure equipment regulatory requirements, particularly ABSA. Your contributions and expertise within the pressure equipment fitness-for-service discipline will help support the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operations of Canadian Natural facilities.

Key Accountabilities:
- Perform and authenticate in-house fitness-for-service assessments in accordance with API-579/ASME FFS-1 Levels 2 and 3 for pressure equipment
- Provide engineering expertise to assist with pressure equipment repairs
- Review and provide oversight on API‑579/ASME FFS‑1 fitness‑for‑service assessments prepared by external consultants
- Perform in-house engineering/calculation for pressure equipment alteration/re-rating
- Liaise between ABSA Design Survey and internal business units
- Provide found-work engineering support during planned and unplanned plant outages
What You Bring to the Role:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering; Mechanical is preferred
- Registration with APEGA as P.Eng. is required, and applicant will be expected to authenticate engineering deliverables in accordance with APEGA Professional Management Guidelines
- 6-15 years of oil and gas/Oil Sands experience; 5+ years in completing and authenticating API-579/ASME FFS-1 Parts 4/5/8/12 Level 3 and Part 9 Level 2 fitness-for-service assessments
- Strong knowledge in ASME BVP/B31, and API-579/ASME FFS-1
- 5+ years of experience with finite element analysis software using Abaqus and/or Ansys for completing API-579/ASME FFS-1 fitness-for-service assessments
- Resourceful and effective at solving technical problems, at times with limited information
- The following would be considered an asset:
- Strong knowledge of finite element analysis software “Abaqus”
- Working knowledge of “Codeware Compress” or “PV Elite”
- Experience performing finite element analysis in accordance with ASME Section VIII Div. 2 Part 5
