The Opportunity
Horizon CPA is a mid-size professional accounting firm located in downtown Vancouver. We provide hands-on accounting, tax compliance, advisory and financial planning services to entrepreneurs, professional corporations and other privately-owned entities.
We are looking for undergraduate business students intending to pursue their CPA designation to join our team as a co-op student for a full-time, 4-month term starting January 2027 (37.5 hours/week).
Compensation: $24 – $26 per hour, commensurate with experience.
What You’ll Be Doing
Preparing T1s, T4s, T5s, T3s, and GST/PST returns
Requesting tax information from clients and following up on outstanding items
Contacting Canada Revenue Agency as required
Drafting responses to CRA notices for review and sign-off by a senior
Responding to queries from seniors, managers, and/or Principals
Assisting in administrative tasks such as operating the firm’s switchboard for incoming calls, sending out signature pages, electronically filing tax returns, archiving and filing documents
What We’re Looking For
Currently enrolled in an undergraduate business program with intent to pursue the CPA designation
Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
Ability to follow instructions and workflow processes with attention to detail
Resourceful and able to work independently while knowing when to escalate
Above-average time management and organizational skills to meet deadlines
Comfortable learning new applications and technology quickly
Available to work additional hours during the busy season (February – April)

We invest in our people. As a co-op student at HCPA, you will work alongside junior accountants, managers, and partners across a variety of industries. You will receive structured training, meaningful work, and the opportunity to see engagements through from start to finish. As you build experience, you will be assigned to progressively more complex work, developing the technical and enabling competencies required for your CPA designation.
Please note that this role includes overtime requirements during our busy season (February through April). This is a standard expectation in public practice and a valuable part of the co-op experience.
