Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Electrical & Electronics Test & Automation Systems Designer to join our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, documenting, and validating custom electrical and automation systems used in manufacturing environments.
The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in electrical system design, schematic development, PCB interfaces, and system validation, along with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesSystem Design & Development
- Review customer requirements and develop effective test strategies
- Design electrical and electronic systems including circuits, instrumentation, pneumatic controls, and cabling
- Create schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout documentation using SolidWorks / SolidWorks Electrical
- Design PCB interfaces and control boards for testing and automation applications
Component Selection & Documentation
- Select components based on performance, reliability, cost, and availability
- Prepare Bills of Materials (BOMs), design reports, and technical documentation
- Maintain accurate and updated engineering records
Testing, Validation & Compliance
- Perform system testing, troubleshooting, simulation, and validation of designs
- Use diagnostic tools such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and logic analyzers
- Ensure compliance with CSA, UL, CE, and other applicable standards
- Apply knowledge of power electronics, signal integrity, and EMC/EMI principles
Collaboration & Support
- Work closely with mechanical designers, software engineers, and project managers
- Support on-site installations, troubleshooting, and warranty service at client locations
- Participate in design reviews and continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or related field
- Experience in electrical/electronics system design
- Proficiency with CAD/EDA tools (SolidWorks, Altium, OrCAD, Eagle, KiCad, etc.)
- Strong understanding of analog and digital circuit design
- Ability to read and create technical drawings and schematics
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Preferred Skills
- Experience with SolidWorks Electrical
- PCB design and layout experience
- Familiarity with NI instruments and software
- Knowledge of CAN, LIN, Automotive Ethernet protocols
- Understanding of DFM/DFA principles and manufacturing processes
- Exposure to regulatory compliance standards
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Legally authorized to work in Canada
Work Environment
- Office and assembly lab-based role
- Occasional travel for client site installation and support
